    Obituary- Clarkin, Phillip
    Obituary- Clarkin, Phillip
Phil. Clerken [sic] is dead. He died at 4 o'clock last Tuesday Morning, On Wednesday's Coroner's Jury composed of P.H. Zickerfoose [sic], Samuel Beal, D.P. Housely, H. Avey, Andrew Orman and Mike McDonell, held a post-mortem examination of the remains, their verdict being: That the said Clerken did come to his death from a pistol shot by Samuel Stratton, unlawfully and feloniously.

The researches and examinations on the body of Philip Clerken by the surgical expert, Doctor H.H. Miller, assisted by Dr. George Miller, of St. Marys, say they found a wound on the body of Philip Clerken; that the cause of the wound was a bullet, and that they found upon examination, a wound about 2 1/2 inches from the center of the Chest bone to the right and just below the Collar Bone, fracturing the first Rib, passing through the upper lobe of the Right Lung, passing through the posterior part, upper lobe of Left Lung fracturing the fifth Rib of the left side about 2 1/2 inches from the center of Spine Column; part of the ball remaining on the fracture end of the Rib balance passing through and lodging back of the Rib. The ball was reduced and shown to the jury.

Samuel Stratton is still at large. He has not been seen since the evening of the shooting, when he left the neighbor from whom he endeavored to borrow a horse, and took the railway track. Some persons think him secreted in the neighborhood awaiting results of Clerken's wound, others think him far out of reach. There seems to have been a very active search made for him thus far.
