    Mr. and Mrs. E.D. Hartzell and children, Mr. and Mrs. D. Hartzell, Mr. and Mrs. L.P. Hartzell motored to Silver Lake Tuesday to attend a celebration in honor of the fifth wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Salley. Other guests were Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Barron and Ruby Wilt.

    SILVER LAKE—Many friends and relatives attended the reception at the Silver Lake Methodist Church Sunday afternoon, June 26, to celebrate the Golden Wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Salley, Silver Lake.

    The serving table was covered with a linen table cloth purchased more than 50 years ago by Mrs. Salley for her mother. She had double hemstitched the hem by hand. The cut glass dishes and silver spoons used for nuts and mints were wedding gifts.

    Relatives of Mrs. Salley who poured punch were Mrs. Allyn Hartzell, Topeka; Mrs. Gary Bailey. Topeka; and Mrs. Philip Hartzell, Rossville. Mrs. Vernon Wyatt, Mrs. Albert Shafer and Mrs. A. J. Thomas, all of Silver Lake, served cake.

    Mrs. L. P. Hartzell, Rossville, and Mrs. Vernon Fritz, Silver Lake had charge of the guest book. Mrs. Ethel Landis and Mrs. Herbert Whitehead of Silver Lake were in charge of gifts.

    The only guest present Sunday who was also present at the wedding 50 years ago was Mr. L. P. Hartzell, brother of Mrs. Salley.

    Members of the original wedding party were: Mr. Dudley Pratt, who furnished the wedding music; Rev. John H. Lamb, Mrs. Ethel Bar¬ren (Ellis), La Mesa, Calif.; Mrs. E. E. Hill (Nelle Nason), Topeka- Mrs. Henry Davis (Emma Ford), Rossville; Mrs. Edna Gililland (Edna Smith), Topeka.

    Ruth E. Johnson
    Ruth E. Johnson passed away Thursday, January 18,2018 in Crystal Lake, IL. She was born February 18,1918 in Topeka, KS to Walter and Edna (nee Hartzell) Salley.

    Ruth graduated from Kansas State College in 1941; she taught school at Axtell, KS and was a county extension agent in Chase County before she married Gaylord G. Johnson on May 27,1945. He preceded her in death on January 23,1991.

    They moved from the Blue Valley in 1960 to the farm near Silver Lake where Ruth grew up. She was active in 4-H and extension work and the Silver Lake United Methodist Church. Ruth was a strong advocate for the developmentally disabled and served as a board member of TARC, Sheltered Living quality assurance, and Independent Support Services (ISS).

    She is survived by her daughter, Susan S. (Chris) Peterson; her son, Steven G. Johnson; her grandchildren, Erik (Alison) Peterson and Kate (Chris) Formas; and her great grandchildren, Jayna and Matthew Formas, and Kaden Peterson.

    A memorial celebrating her life will be held at a later date in Silver Lake.
