    MR. AND MRS. EVAN LEWELLING, Rossville, will celebrate their Golden Anniversary with a reception at the Delia Community Center on Sunday, June 5, from 2-5 p.m. The couple asks that no gifts be presented.

    Since their wedding on June 1, 1927 at Holton, the couple has lived in the Delia, Soldier and Rossville communities. They are the parents of one daughter, Mrs. Laverne Zlatnik, Delia. Their son. Dale, was killed in a traffic accident in 1961. The Lewellings have three grandchildren - Mark, Caroline and Alan; and four great-grandchildren - Julie, Shiela, Scott and Melissa Zlatnik.

    Lewellings Celebrate Golden Anniversary in Delia
    Mr. and Mrs. Evan Lewelling, Rossville, celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary at the Delia Community Center Sunday, June 5.

    A buffet luncheon was served at noon to sixty family members. All of Mr. and Mrs. Lewelling’s living brothers and sisters, and an uncle of Mr. Lewelling were in attendance.

    In celebration of their 25th wedding anniversary, Mr. and Mrs. Ira Williams and Mr. and Mrs. J. Laverne Zlatnik, both of Delia, will be honored with a reception in the Delia Presbyterian church basement from 2 until 5 p.m. Sunday, August 5.

    Golden Anniversary for Zlatniks
    J. Laverne and Velma Zlatnik, Delia, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary as guests of honor at an open house from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. Sunday, August 9, at the Rossville United Methodist Church.

    Hosts will be Mrs. Zlatnik’s mother, Mrs. Louise Lewelling, Rossville, and their children — Mark and Linda Zlatnik, Wichita; Terry and Carolyn Orozco, Topeka; and Alan and Tammy Zlatnik, Rossville.

    Velma and Laverne have twelve grandchildren and one great-grandson.
    Velma Lewelling and J. Laverne Zlatnik were married August 8,1948, at the home of the bride near Soldier, with the Rev. Alex Eckert officiating.

    Mr. Zlatnik is a semi-retired farmer and Mrs. Zlatnik retired from U.S.D. #321.

    Velma F. Zlatnik
    Delia-Velma F. Zlatnik died Wednesday, December 26, 2007 at the Midland Hospice House following a courageous battle against leukemia. She was born November 27, 1928 near Delia, the daughter of Evan and Louise Hayden Lewelling. She attended High Prairie Grade School and graduated from Soldier Rural High School in 1946. Velma attended Kansas State College and obtained an emergency certificate and taught school at Cedar Hill and High Prairie in Jackson county and Forest Bluff in Shawnee county. Mrs. Zlatnik worked for USD # 321 for 27 years as a cook-manager and later as a para in the Interrelated Resource room at Rossville Grade School. She was a member of the Delia Presbyterian Church for 59 years where she taught Sunday School and Bible School. She also was the church pianist for many of those years. Mrs. Zlatnik was selected as the Jackson County Extension Homemaker of the Year in 1988 while she was a member of the Delia Up & Atom Extension Unit. She was an excellent cook and was well known for her pies and breads. She was preceded in death by her parents, and a brother, Evan D. Lewelling in 1963. On August 8, 1948 she was united in marriage to J. Laverne Zlatnik. He survives on the farm where he and Velma lived all of their married life. They were the parents of three children, Mark (Linda) Zlatnik, Shell Knob, MO, Carolyn (Terry) Orozco, Topeka and Alan (Tammy) Zlatnik, Rossville; seven grandchildren, Julie (Gary) Spring, Sheila Podrebarac, Scott (Isabel) Zlatnik, Melissa (Kelly) Smith, Joe Zlatnik, Duane Zlatnik and Lexi Zlatnik; seven great-grandchildren; five step grandchildren and 6 step-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, December 29, 2007 at Piper Funeral Home in St. Marys. Interment will be in the Delia Cemetery. Mrs. Zlatnik will lie in state Friday, December 28, 2007 from 4:00 until 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home, and the family will receive friends from 4:00 until 6:00 P.M.     Interment was in the Delia Cemetery.
