    SIKESTON — Maurice Hixon went home to be with the Lord on Monday, Dec. 7, 2020, at his home in Sikeston.

    He was born in Willard, Kansas on Jan. 23, 1923.

    He was raised in Iola, Kansas, where he met and married the love of his life, Joyce Elaine Daniels.

    He worked for the city of Iola where he attained the position of Assistant Plant Manager. He moved his family to Sikeston in 1958 where he worked for the Board of Municipal Utilities as the Plant Manager of the newly constructed E.P. Coleman Power Plant. Maurice continued as Plant Manager of the newly constructed power plant built in the 1980s until retirement in 1995.

    Maurice was active as coach for the Little League and as a member of his church family.

    He was preceded in death by his parents, William Hixon and Tressie Greathouse Hixon; and sister; Nora Lorraine Heffernon and brothers; Gail Hixon, Darrell Hixon, Robert “Bob” Hixon, Wayne Hixon and Lowell “Jack” Hixon.

    He is survived by his wife, Joyce Elaine Hixon; and daughter, Marsha Mitchell; grandchildren, Rob (Laura) Mitchell, Brian (Erin) Mitchell; son, Michael (Jacqualine) Hixon; grandchildren, Derrick, Darin and Justin. He also has six great-grandchildren.

    Due to COVID-19 concerns the family has planned a private graveside service at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield, Missouri, William Marshall, pastor at Grace Bible Fellowship Church in Sikeston, officiating.
