ROSSVILLE - Betty M. Crawford, 86, Rossville, died Monday, Oct. 18, 2004, at a Topeka nursing home. She was born Feb. 13, 1918, on a farm near Hawley, in Grant County, Okla., the youngest of seven children of Lester DeWitt and Manerva May Cox Trenton. She married Vance R. Crawford on June 19, 1949, in Enid, Okla. He died Feb. 17, 1991. Mrs. Crawford also was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Kylie Crawford, on March 8, 1979. Survivors include a daughter, Gay V. Crawford, Topeka; a son, Rudy T. Crawford, and his wife, Deb, Paxico; a grandson, Calab Crawford, Rossville; and several nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Rossville Christian Church. Mrs. Crawford will lie in state after 2 p.m. Monday at Piper Funeral Chapel in Rossville, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Rossville Christian Church or Jimmie Lillard Post No. 31 of the American Legion Auxiliary and sent in care of the funeral chapel, 419 Main, Rossville, Kan. 66533.

Betty M. Crawford, 86, Rossville, died Monday, October 18, 2004, at a Topeka nursing center.
She was born February 13, 1918, on a farm near Hawley, in Grant County, OK, the daughter of Lester DeWitt and Manerva May Cox Trenton.
She had lived in the Rossville community for many years.
Betty grew up on a farm near Hawley, the youngest of seven children. She graduated from Gore Consolidated No. 1 High School, Wakita, OK. She had worked at the La Fonda Hotel in Santa Fe, NM. She moved to Delia in 1957, and later to Rossville. She had worked for Culver Aircraft in Wichita during World War II, and had been a substitute rural mail carrier at Delia.
She was a member of the Rossville Christian Church where she was active, serving as a Sunday School teacher and she helped organize the quilting group. She was a member of Jimmie Lillard Post No. 31 of the American Legion Auxiliary in Rossville, and was a member of NARFE.
She married Vance R. Crawford on June 19, 1949, at Enid, OK. He died February 17, 1991. A granddaughter, Kylie Crawford, died March 8, 1970.
Survivors include a daughter, Gay V. Crawford, Topeka; a son, Rudy T. Crawford; and a grandson, Caleb Crawford.
Her service will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday (today) at the Rossville Christian Church. Burial will be in Rossville Cemetery. The family received friends from 6-7 Monday at Piper Funeral Chapel, Rossville.
Memorial contributions may be made to Rossville Christian Church or to Jimmie Lillard Post No.31 of the American Legion Auxiliary and sent in care to the funeral chapel, 419 Main, Rossville 66533.
