Vance Rainey Crawford, 77, Rossville, died Sunday, February 17, 1991, at a Topeka hospital.
Mr. Crawford was a retired U.S. Postal employee.
He was bom March 5, 1913, in Hennessey, Okla., the son of DeWitt Talmadge and Blondena Blanche Rainey Crawford. He graduated from Enid (Okla.) High School in 1930. He attended Oklahoma A&M College at Stillwater one year.
Mr. Crawford served with the U.S. Navy Seabees, European Theater of Operations during World War II. He worked for the U.S. Postal Service at Enid, Okla., Santa Fe, N.M., and Delia, retiring in 1975 after 40 years of service.
He was an active member and held several offices, including board chairman at the Rossville Christian Church. He was a life member and past commander at American Legion Jimmie Lillard Post 31, Rossville. He was active in the Silver Lake Community Choir, was a member of the National Rural Letter Carriers Association, and the National Association of Retired Federal Employees. Mr. Crawford served on the Rossville Drainage Board and was active in many other organizations in the Rossville community.
He was married to Betty May Trenton on June 19, 1949 at Enid, Okla. She survives.
Other survivors include a daughter, Gay V. Crawford, Topeka; a son, Rudy Crawford, Rossville; one grandson; two brothers, Harold Crawford, Enid. Okla., and Ted Crawford, Norman, Okla.
Mr. Crawford was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Kylie Crawford, in 1979.
Visitation is from 7 to 8 p.m. Sunday, February 24, at Verschelden Chapel in St. Marys. Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Monday, February 25, at the Rossville Christian Church with interment to follow in the Rossville Cemetery.
The family suggests memorials to the Rossville Christian Church, or the Rossville Rescue Unit c/o Shawnee County Fire District No. 3, Rossville, 66533.

Vance Rainey Crawford
ROSSVILLE Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in the Christian Church here for Vance Rainey Crawford, 77, Rossville. He died Sunday, Feb. 17, 1991, at a Topeka hospital.
Mr. Crawford worked 40 years for the U.S. Postal Service at Enid, Okla., Santa Fe, N.M., and at Delia. He reŽtired in 1975. He was a Navy veteran of World War II, having served with a Seabees unit in the European TheŽatre.

Mr. Crawford was a member of the Christian Church in Rossville and was chairman of the church board.

Mr. CrawŽford will lie in state after 10 a.m. Sunday at Verschelden Funeral Home in St. Marys and after 1 p.m. Monday at the church. Family and friends will meet from 7 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. MemoriŽal contributions may be made to Rossville Christian Church or Rossville First Responder.
