    John W. Cummings
    Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Assumption Catholic Church for John W. Cummings, 66, Topeka. He died Sunday, May 7, 1989, in a Kansas City, Mo., hospital.
    Mr. Cummings owned and operated the Mobil Service Station on US-24 in North Topeka many years. He also had worked four years for Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co., and for Seaman School District and was a bus driver for Topeka public schools.
    He was an Army veteran of World War II, having served from Dec. 23, 1940, until Oct. 17, 1945. He served in North Africa.
    He was born March 12, 1923, in Mayetta, the son of John William and Viola May Jones Cummings. He lived in Hoyt before he moved to Topeka in 1952.
    Mr. Cummings was a member of Assumption Catholic Church and Capitol Post No. 1 of the American Legion, both in Topeka, and Knights of Columbus Council No. 7426 in Meriden.
    He was married to Euna U. Davis Nov. 28, 1944, in Los Angeles. She survives. A daughter, Donna Sue Cummings, died in 1963.
    Other survivors include three daughters, Mary L. Corkhill, Manassas, Va., Carol U. Runnebaum, Carbondale, and Janice K. Mullins, Topeka; seven sons, John E. Cummings and James L. Cummings, both of Meriden, Leo T. Cummings, Charles Cummings and Andrew D. Cummings, all of Topeka, Daniel D. Cummings, Rockwall, Texas, and George L. Cummings, Berryton; and his mother, Viola Cummings, Burlingame.

    Also surviving are five sisters, Vera Mae Cummings, Lawrence, Theresa Prockish, Wichita, Mildred Schucker, Coronado, Calif., Margaret Shaffer, Topeka, and Mary Ann Waltman, Paxico; seven brothers, Francis Cummings, Gerald Cummings and Anthony Cummings, all of Topeka, Cornelius Cummings, Rossville, Leonard Cummings, St. Marys, Theodore Cummings, address unavailable, and Richard Cummings, Manhattan; and 19 grandchildren.
    Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery in Hoyt. Mr. Cummings will lie in state after 4 p.m. today at Davidson Funeral Home where rosaries will be recited by Knights of Columbus at 7 and the parish at 7:30 p.m. today.
