EMMETT--Z. Wauneta Darting, 93, passed away Friday, August 23, 2013 at the Rossville Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center.
She was born August 4, 1920 at rural Soldier, the daughter of Raymond and Griffie Adams Andrick.
Mrs. Darting grew up in the rural Delia area and graduated from Soldier High School in 1940 with a Normal Training Certificate. She earned two degrees while teaching, going to night school and summer school at Washburn University. Mrs. Darting taught 19 years in one-room rural schools in Jackson County and 21 years as a first grade teacher in Shawnee County. She was a member of the Emmett United Methodist Church, Delta Kappa Gamma and also the Jolly Workers Club in Emmett.
She was united in marriage to Cleafes A Darting on June 14, 1941. He preceded her in death on November 19, 1966. She was also preceded in death by her parents, three infant siblings, a sister, Lenora Darting, her son, Roy A. Darting, on June 23, 2010, and two grandchildren, Jeffery Darting in 1993 and Lucas Rojas in 2001.
Survivors include a son, Gerry R. Darting, Rossville; two daughters, Betty J. Darting, Emmett, and Wilma W. Rojas, Rossville; a brother, John Andrick, Rossville; two sisters, Genevieve Jacobson, Rossville, and Dorothy Redmon, Topeka; 7 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 A.M. Thursday, August 29, 2013 at Piper Funeral Home in St. Marys. Interment will be in the Rossville Cemetery. Mrs. Darting will lie in state after 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, August 28, 2013 at the funeral home, where the family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00.
