George W. Eversole, son of John H. and Mary A. Eversole, was born at Peabody, Kansas, February 15, 1895. At the time he departed this life he was 31 years, 8 months and 13 days old.
He spent a few years of his boyhood in Arkansas, coming to Rossville when 16 years old. On November 10, 1920, he was married to Mabel A. Binns, who with two little daughters, Patricia Lee and Frances, survive him. One little daughter having preceded him in infancy, the other surviving relatives are: his mother, Mrs. J. H. Eversole, three sisters, Mrs. L.P. Hartzell and Mrs. Riley Wood of Rossville and Mrs. J.A. Roush, of Albuquerque, N.M., and one brother, John of Pocatello, Idaho.
George united with the Methodist church of Rossville in young manhood.
He engaged in various lines of work in Rossville then became a tool dresser in the oil fields. At the time of his departure on October 28, 1926 he was living in El Dorado, Kansas. He could not survive the shock of an appendicitis operation.
George was a merry, lovable boy who won friends wherever he went. This last fact was very strongly shown in El Dorado by the deeds of kindness and words of sympathy from his associates there.
George was a devoted son, to his aged mother and an unusually strong family tie bound him to his three sisters and his one brother. He was a kind and thoughtful husband and father.
He was industrious and honest and one of his greatest comforts was the fact that he was leaving $5,000 old line insurance to his wife and babies.
The funeral was conducted by Rev. Berg of the Presbyterian church, Sunday, October 31, at 2:30, at the home of F. N. Binns. The body was laid to rest in the Rossville cemetery.
The large gathering of friends and relatives and the beautiful floral offerings spoke forcibly of the high esteem in which George was held and of the sympathy for his family.
George Eversole passed away at 3 o’clock this morning in an El Dorado hospital, following an operation last Saturday for appendicitis.
News of his death was a shock to his Rossville relatives and friends.
The relatives received work about 11 o’clock last night that his condition had changed for the worse and his mother and sisters, Mrs. J.H. Eversole, Mrs. L.P. Hartzell and Mrs. Riley Wood, accompanied by Mr. F. N. Binns, reached Topeka in time to leave on the midnight train but too late to see George alive.
Mrs. L.P. Hartzell and Mrs. F.N. Binns went to El Dorado Friday. The former returned Tuesday when his condition was so favorable and no complications were anticipated. Mrs. Binns remained with her daughter, Mrs. Eversole.
The shock to the nervous system was too great and his heart become bad at 9 o’clock Wednesday night. Mrs. Eversole was with him from 9 o’clock until the end came.
The body will be brought to Rossville Friday morning. The funeral will be held Saturday at 2:30 at the F.N. Binns home if the relatives succeed in locating Mr. John Eversole, a brother who arrived in Texas last week but whose present address in unknown.
