| Bridal Shower- Lasswell, Irene Marvin Davis and his bride were the honor guests at a social hour following band practice Tuesday evening at the high school auditorium. The family of each band member was invited. Ice cream and cake were served. |

Mr. and Mrs. Roy Lasswell of Havensville announce the. marriage of their daughter, Irene, to Mr. Marvin Davis, son of Mr. and Mrs. David Davis of this community.
The wedding was quietly solmenized Sunday, May 17, at the home of Reverend IL L. Nelson in Topeka. The only attendants were the bride’s sister, Miss Lottie Lasswell and Mr. Gayle Foster of Manhattan.
The bride was prettily attired in a white crepe dress and picture hat with matching accessories, and carried Talisman roses.
The bridesmaid wore a beautiful pink dress, picture hat, with matching accessories and carried American Beauty roses.
Both Mr. and Mrs. Davis attended college at Manhattan. Mr. Davis is affiliated with the Phi Mu Alpha honorary music fraternity. Mrs. Davis has been one of Shawnee county’s school teachers for the past two years.
They will reside on a farm one mile north of Rossville.
The Reporter wishes to add its congratulations and best wishes to those from Marvin’s host of friends for a long and happy married life.
The newly weds were noisly yet pleasantly surprised when about 50 from the district south of Topeka, where Mrs. Davis taught, came out with cow bells, tin cans and gave the couple a real old-fashioned charivari.

Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Davis, Rossville, will celebrate their fortieth wedding anniversary Sunday, May 16, at their home.
Friends and relatives are invited to call from 2 to 5 p.m. The couple requests no gifts.
Hosts will be their children, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Davis, Mr. and Mrs. Gene Davis, and Mr. and Mrs. Dean Davis.

Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Davis, Rossville, will celebrate their fiftieth wedding anniversary with a reception to be given by their children and grandchildren on Sunday, May 18, 1986, in the fellowship hall of the Rossville Presbyterian Church from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m.
Their children are Roy and Phyllis Davis, Dean and Marlene Davis, and Gene and Trudi Davis, all of Rossville, The Davises have seven grandchildren.
Friends and relatives are invited to attend the reception and the couple asks only for the gift of your presence at this very important event in their lives.
Marvin Davis and Irene Lasswell were married May 17, 1936, in Topeka. They have lived on the farm near Rossville since they were married.

Miss Trudi Lynne Mee, daughter of Mr. and Lyndon Mee, Maple became the bride of Mr. Gene Davis, son of Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Davis, Rossville, in a ceremony solemnized Sunday evening, September 1, at 7:30 in the Congregational Church, Maple Hill.
The Rev. W. E. officiated at the double-ring ceremony. A large bouquet of white gladioli graced the altar. Mrs. Howard Hammarlund, organist, played and accom¬panied Rodney Say, soloist. Taper-lighters were Jan Miller, Maple Hill, Karan Spanier, Copeland.
The bride, given in marriage by her father, wore floorlength gown of bridal taffeta. The scoop neckline was outlined with of Venice lace, and bridal point sleeves complimented the basque bodice. The soft gathered skirt was styled in two tiers, with the top tier trimmed in matching lace. The back detail consisted of an aisle-wide chapel train. Her elbow-length veil of silk illusion, banded in Venice lace, was caught to a crown of pearls. She carried a cascade bouquet of white roses with ivy streamers. Her only jewelry was a strand of pearls, a gift of the bridegroom.
The maid of honor, the bride’s sister, Miss Marcia Mee, and bridesmaids, Miss Roberta Oliver, Maple Hill, and Sydney Nixon of Emporia, wore streetlength gowns of silk brocade in French blue, styled with a fitted bodice and a bell-shaped skirt. The bodice featured a scoop neckline and elbow- length sleeves. Small self-bows accented the skirt. They wore matching blue circlets with short veils and carried bouquets of white mums, blue cornflowers with white streamers.
Sarah Adams of Plains, was flower girl and wore a white organdy dress with blue sash, and wore blue pom-poms in her hair.
The bridegroom was attended by his brother, Dean Davis, of Manhattan. Groomsmen were Roy D. Davis, another brother, of Rossville, and Jerry Rice, of Eskridge; Ushers were Baird Miller, Maple Hill; Steve Lucas, Topeka; Donald Rogers, Rossville.
Immediately following the ceremony a reception was held in the Parish Hall. Miss Cynthia Lucas of Topeka, Mrs. Dean Davis, Manhattan, and Miss Judy Robert, Topeka, presided at the serving table.
Mrs. Roy D. Davis, Rossville, was in charge of the guest book, and Misses Kathryn Adams and Lana Schulte, Maple Hill, in charge of gifts.
Mr. and Mrs. Davis are now making their home in Emporia, where they will be juniors at Kansas State Teachers College.

ROSSVILLE - - Dr. Gene L. Davis, 59, Rossville, who formerly taught in schools in Topeka, died Saturday, Jan. 25, 2003, at a Topeka hospital. He had been ill.
He was born July 15, 1943, near Rossville, to Marvin D. and Irene M. Lasswell Davis. He spent his early life in the Rossville community. He graduated from Rossville High School in 1961. He graduated from the College of Emporia and earned a master’s degree from Emporia State University. He earned a doctorate in education at Oklahoma State University in Stillwater. He was the coordinator for Highland Community College on the Wamego campus.
He began teaching at Marion Elementary School in Marion. He taught at Kansas Wesleyan University in Salina. He was a teacher and administrator at several schools.
He was a member of the Community Congregation Church in Maple Hill and Phi Delta Kappa and Kappa Delta Phi Greek letter societies.
He married Trudi Mee on Sept. 1, 1963, in Maple Hill. She survives.
Other survivors include a daughter, Jennifer Warton, Rossville; two brothers, Ray D. Davis, Rossville, and Dean L. Davis, Maple Hill, and a grandchild.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Community Congregational Church in Maple Hill. Burial will be in Rossville Cemetery. Dr. Davis will lie in state after 2 p.m. Tuesday at Piper-Verschelden Funeral Home in St. Marys, where visitation will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Memorial contributions may be made to the library fund at the Community Congregational Church in Maple Hill or to the Wamego campus of Highland Community College.

Dr. Gene L. Davis, 59, Rossville, died Saturday, January 25,2003 at a Topeka hospital.
He was born July 15, 1943, in rural Rossville, the son of Marvin D. and Irene M. Lasswell Davis.
He grew up in the Rossville community where he was graduated from Rossville High School in 1961. He was graduated from the College of Emporia, and received his Master’s degree from Emporia State University. He received his Doctorate of Education degree from Oklahoma State University, Stillwater, OK. He was currently the coordinator of Highland Community College at the Wamego campus.
He had taught at Cair-Paravel Latin School in Topeka. He was an admistrator at the Dover Elementary and Middle schools. He had taught for USD 501 at Chase Middle School, and had been an administrator of elementary and high schools at Frankfort. He had taught at Marymount College in Salina, and earlier served as an administrator at Rossville High School. He taught at Kansas Wesleyan in Salina and had started his teaching career at Marion Elementary School in Marion.
Dr. Davis was a member of the Maple Hill Community Congregational Church, Maple Hill. He was a member of Phi Delta Kappa and Kappa Delta Phi. He was also a Danforth Associate at Kansas Wesleyan.
On September 1, 1963, he married Trudi Mee at Maple Hill. She survives.
Other survivors include a daughter, Jennifer Warton, Rossville; two brothers, Roy D. Davis, Rossville, and Dean L. Davis, Maple Hill; and a grandson.
Visitation will be from 7 to 8:30 Tuesday (this evening) at Piper-Verschelden Funeral Home, 714 Maple, St. Marys 66536. His service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Maple Hill Community Congregational Church. Burial will be in the Rossville Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Maple Hill Community Congregational Church Library Fund, or to Highland Community College, Wamego, and sent in care of the funeral home.
There are no words to adequately express our gratitude for the many prayers, cards, flowers, food and memorials during Gene’s long hospitalization and following his death. We feel blessed to have the love and support of so many friends, and family members. Thank you all for your many acts of kindness. This helped to make a difficult time a little easier to bear.
