ROSSVILLE -- John P. Davis, 83, Rossville, died Thursday, Sept.12, 1996, at a Topeka nursing home.
Mr. Davis farmed and raised livestock for more than 50 years before he retired. He worked in farming through the age of plowing with draft horses to riding in large,
air-conditioned tractors.
He was born May 5, 1913, southwest of Rossville, the son of Denny M. and Grace Alexander Davis. He was reared at Rossville and was graduated from Rossville High School.
Mr. Davis was a member of Rossville Presbyterian Church where he served as an elder. He was a past member of the board of directors and president of the board of St. Marys Farmers Union Co-op.
He was married to Ethyl M. Gerberick on Nov. 13, 1952, at Oskaloosa. She preceded him in death.
Survivors include two sons, Fred H. Davis, Harrisonville, Mo., and Clarence Gerberick, Bath, Maine; two sisters, Gladys Ryan, Rossville, and Eva Graves, Topeka; a brother, James Davis, Rossville; three grandsons; and a great-granddaughter.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Rossville Presbyterian Church. Burial will be at Rossville Cemetery. Mr. Davis will lie in state from 2 to 7:30 p.m. Sunday at Piper-Verschelden Funeral Home at St. Marys. Memorial contributions may be made to Rossville Presbyterian Church or to the American Heart Association and sent in care of the funeral home.

He lived in the Rossville community all of his life, and graduated from Rossville High School. He was a farmer and livestock breeder for over 50 years, until he retired.
He was a member of the Rossville Presbyterian Church where he served as an elder. He was a past member of the Board of Directors and past President of the Board of the St. Marys Farmers Union Cooperative.
He was married to Ethyl M. Gerberick on November 13, 1952, at Oskaloosa. She preceded him in death.
Survivors include two sons, Fred H. Davis, Harrisonville, MO, Clarence Gerberick, Bath, ME; two sisters, Gladys Ryan, Rossville, Eva Graves, Topeka; one brother, James Davis, Rossville; a sister-in-law, Mary Lou Stoffel, Arkansas; three grandsons; and one great-granddaughter.
Services were Monday at the Rossville Presbyterian Church. Burial was in the Rossville Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Rossville Presbyterian Church or to the American Heart Association and sent in care of Piper-Verschelden Funeral Home.
