    Opal M. Davis

    Opal Marie Davis, 80, Holton, died Tuesday, March 11, 1997, at the Jackson County Nursing Home in Holton. She was born March 10, 1917, in Osage City, the daughter of Roy Franklin and Nellie Cappen Bickford. She was the oldest of 13 children.

    Mrs. Davis attended grade school in Burlingame and was a 1934 graduate of Waverly High School. She helped her husband farm near Rossville until they moved to Topeka in 1954. She retired from Memorial Union Food Service at Washburn University in 1979, after nearly 20 years of service.

    She was a past member of the Rossville Christian Church and, at the time of her death, was a member of the First Christian Church in Holton.

    She was married to Glen H. “Buzz” Davis December 5, 1937, in Lyndon. He died August 12, 1985.

    Survivors include two sons, Ronald Lee Davis and Dennis Glen Davis, both of Topeka; four sisters, Arlene Nott, Barbara Minden, and Janice Sue Stewart, all of Topeka, and Betty Mayo, Filer, Ida.; four brothers, Leo Bickford and Kenneth Bickford, both of Holton, Clifford Bickford, Sterling, and Leland Bickford, Bella Vista, Ark.; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

    The family met with friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday evening at the Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Her funeral service was Friday at 10:00 at the funeral home. Burial was in Holton Cemetery.
