    Derek D. Denzler

    SILVER LAKE — Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Northside Church of Christ in Topeka for Derek D. Denzler, 21, Silver Lake.

    Mr. Denzler died Friday, Aug. 26, 1988, at his home from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head, according to Dr. Robert D. Jensen, Shawnee County deputy district coroner.

    Mr. Denzler was employed by the Rolling Hills Health Center in Topeka.

    He was born Jan. 12, 1967, in Topeka, the son of Jerry L. and Sharon S. Bicks Denzler. He lived all his life in the Topeka and Silver Lake area.

    He is survived by his mother, Sharon Denzler, Topeka; his father and step-mother, Jerry and Patricia Denzler, Silver Lake; a sister, Heather Denzler, Topeka; a brother, Jerry L. Denzler Jr., Topeka; a step-sister, Chris Ferguson, Silver Lake; a stepbrother, Troy Ferguson, Larned; his grandmother and step-grandfather, Ruth and Orville Wege, Onaga; and his grandmother, Winifred “Winnie” Denzler, Topeka.

    Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in Topeka. Mr. Denzler will lie in state from 1 p.m. today until noon Tuesday at Newcomer-Diffenderfer Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to Suicide Prevention in care of the Shawnee Community Mental Health Center, 2401 S.W. 6th, Topeka, 66606.



    Gunshot victim on life-support system
    A 20-year-old man was on a life-support system at a local hospital Saturday after he suffered a gunshot wound to the head at Rossville, officials said.

    A Shawnee County sheriff’s dispatcher wouldn’t release the man’s name late Saturday.

    The shooting was still under investigation.


    Silver Lake man dies of self-inflicted gunshot

    A 21-year-old Silver Lake man committed suicide at his home on Friday, officials said.

    Dr. Robert D. Jensen, Shawnee County deputy district coroner, identified the man as Derek Denzler. He said an autopsy showed that Denzler died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.
