Person Notes: Obituary of Gerald Dolezilek
This community was saddened this (thursday) morning to learn of the death of Jerry Dolezilek, eight-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Dolezilek, Jr.
His was the first case of polio in the community but speedily fatal.
Little Jerry was stricken last Friday with the illness and Saturday his constant vomiting finally was diagnosed by his physician and his parents advised to get him to a hospital as quickly as possible. It was not until Monday afternoon they were able to have him admitted to Christs Hospital.
Stricken with paralysis in the neck it quickly spread to the brain and he passed away this (Thursday) morning at 8:30.
Jerry was born July 26, 1938 just west of Rossville and spent his life and school days in Rossville. He had an engaging personality and was a little friend to everyone. He always had time to wave a "Hello" greeting to those whom he met. He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Dolezilek, Jr., two brothers, George, in the Naval service, stationed at Corpus Christi, Texas, and Ernie of the home and RHS student; two grandfathers Rudolph Besta and Frank Dolezilek, Sr., both of Rossville and many other near relatives.
Due to the character of his ailment only graveside services were held under theCatholic ritual at Mount Calvary Cemetery, Saturday morning at 9:00 o'clock.
For Mr. and Mrs. Frank Dolezilek, George and Ernie, RHS students and faculty feel a deep sympathy the are unable to adequately express. Jerry was very dear to all of us for his cherry, friendly disposition, his happy "Hi Ya" his lilting whistle attracted everyone he met on the street. He was one of the most enthusiastic and loyal supporters Rossville athletics have ever had. And so, recognizing out loss of a dear little friend, we extend out condolence to his family. Bernice Herron.
