Mr. and Mrs. Richard Grace, Wamego, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with a mass of thanksgiving at 10:15 a.m. May 6 in St. Bernard’s Catholic Church. A reception will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. in the church hall.
Hosts for the occasion will be their children and families: John and Rita Grace; and Twila Grace Bloom.
Richard Grace and Opal Ruegseggdr were married May 5, 1940 in Alma. Mr. Grace is a civil service retiree from Fort Riley. Mrs. Grace is a retired school teacher.

WAMEGO — Richard James Grace, 85, formerly of Wamego, died Saturday, Aug. 31, 1996, at a Topeka nursing home.
Mr. Grace was a fireman at Fort Riley for more than 29 years. He also was an Army veteran of World War II.
He was born March 29, 1911, in Delia, the son of William E. and Anna Burke Grace. He was graduated from Delia High School.
Mr. Grace was a member of St. Bernard's Catholic Church, the Harold Johnson Post No. 172 of the American Legion and Post No. 1258 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, all in Wamego, and the National Association of Retired Federal Employees.
He was married to Opal Ruegsegger on May 5, 1940, in Alma. She died Feb. 13, 1991. A daughter, Janet Grace, died in 1974.
Survivors include a son, John R. Grace, Topeka; a daughter, Twila J. Bloom, Topeka; a sister, Agnes Kennedy, Topeka; and three grandchildren.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Bernard s Catholic Church in Wamego. Burial with full military honors conducted by a Fort Riley Military Detail will be at the church cemetery. Mr. Grace will lie in state from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Stewart Funeral Home in Wamego, where a wake service and a rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made either to the United Methodist Home in Topeka or to the St. Bernard’s Catholic Church Building Fund and sent in care of the funeral home |
