Mrs. Nellie Lillard announces the marriage of her daughter Phyllis Mae to Mr. William R. Graves, son of Mr. and Mrs. A. R. Graves of Manhattan.
The marriage took place Friday, March 9, at 2 o’clock in the parsonage of the Methodist church in Manhattan. Rev. Herbert B. Cockerill read the ceremony. Their only attendants were Mr. and Mrs. Merill Persyn.
The bride wore a navy blue dress with gray accessories and a corsage of gardenias.
Mrs. Persyn wore a brown suit with brown accessories and a corsage of yellow roses.
A reception was held at the home of the grooms parents in Manhattan.
After a wedding trip to Colorado, the couple will be at home in Manhattan.
The bride, a graduate of Rossville High school, was employed by Hallmark’s Greeting Card Co. and the groom is employed by the Manhattan Fire Department.

| Obituary- Graves, William William “Bill” Graves
William “Bill” R. Graves, 72, Rossville, died Sunday, August 20, 2000, at his home.
He was born October 5, 1927, in Manhattan, the son of Archie and Bertha Popejoy Graves.
Mr. Graves grew up in the rural Manhattan community and attended Manhattan High School. He served in the United States Navy. He was a truck driver and mechanic for Ryder Truck Company in Junction City, before retiring in 1992. He was a member of AARP.
March 9, 1951, he married Phyllis Lillard, and married her again on April 12, 1996. She survives.
Other survivors include a son, Robert R. Graves, Topeka; five sisters, Alice Persyn, Huntsville, AR, Lois Lewis, Gladys Sedam and Bemis Parker, Manhattan, and Evelyn Reece, Kansas City, MO; a grandson and a great-granddaughter.
He will lie in state from 2:00 until 7:30 Tuesday (today) at Piper-Verschelden Funeral Home in St. Marys. His service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home; burial will be in the Rossville Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Stormont-Vail Hospice, or the Rossville United Methodist Church and sent in care of Piper-Verschelden Funeral Home, 714 Maple, St. Marys 66536.

He was born Oct. 5, 1927, in Manhattan, to Archie and Bertha Popejoy Graves. He spent his early life near Manhattan and attended Manhattan High School. He was a truck driver and mechanic for Ryder Truck Co., in Junction City before he retired in 1992.
He married Phyllis Lillard on March 9, 1951. They were divorced. They remarried April 12, 1996. She survives.
Other survivors include a son, Robert R. Graves, Topeka; five sisters, Alice Persyn, Huntsville, Ark., Lois Lewis, Gladys Sedam and Bernis Parker, all in Manhattan, and Evelyn Reece, Kansas City, Mo.; a grandson; and a great-granddaughter.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Piper-Verschelden Funeral Home in St. Marys. Burial will be in Rossville Cemetery. Mr. Graves will lie in state from 2 to 7:30 p.m. today at the
funeral home.
