Mrs. LaVenia Fortney, 49, 1709 N. Tyler, was killed early Thursday morning in a one-car accident about three miles southeast of Mayetta on a county road, the Highway Patrol reported. Two other persons were injured.
The patrol said the driver, Johnny L. Masquat, Mrs. Fortney’s son, lost control of his car and it struck a bridge railing.
Masquat, 23, and another passenger, P. S. Rice, 65, Delia, were taken to Holton Hospital with minor injuries.
Mrs. Fortney was born Jan. 2, 1918, in Powhattan.
Topekan 10 Years
She had lived in Topeka for 10 years and had been a nurse at a nursing home here and a housekeeper at Ramada Inn.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Aletha Jean Hale, of the home; a son, Johnny Lee Masquat, of the home; three sis¬ters, Mrs. Hildreth Crith, 970 Long, Mrs. Mary Jesseppe, Whiting, Mrs. Arlene Wahwahsuck, Horton; two brothers, Edward Ship Shee and Patrick Ship Shee, both of Omaha, and three grandchildren.
Kenakuk Church services will be Saturday evening in the Mary Jesseppe home, Whiting. Burial will be Sunday in the Green Family Cemetery west of Horton.
