    Ova and Erma Harden, rural Topeka, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with a reception from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, May 15, at their home, 6442 NW 46th, Topeka.

    Hosts will be their children, Kenny and Cindy, Harden, Irvine, Calif., Kathy and Jr. Hogle, Topeka, and Pam and Sandy Pittenger, Raleigh, NC.

    The Hardens have five grandchildren and two step-grandchildren.

    Ova Harden and Erma Anderson were married May 15, 1948, in Topeka. They have lived in the Bethel community since 1949.

    Mr. Harden is retired from Century Lumber Company and Dean’s Excavating. Mrs. Harden retired from Dunkin’ Donuts.

    Ova Harden
    Ova Henry Harden, 69, Topeka, died Thursday, July 8, 1999, at his home.

    Mr. Harden retired from Dean’s Excavation, and as office manager of the Century Lumber Co. He earlier had worked for Gregg Tire and Goodyear Tire. He also farmed his entire life.

    He was born July 21, 1929, in Dover, the son of Orval Henry and Goldie Bell Lister Harden. He attended Rossville High School and graduated from Silver Lake High School. He earned an accounting degree at Washburn University. He lived most his life in the Silver Lake and Bethel communities.

    Mr. Harden was a member of Bethel Chapel Community Church, Bethel Literary Society and Moose Lodge No. 555. He also had coached boys baseball and girls softball in Silver Lake and Topeka.

    He married Erma Ruth Anderson on May 15, 1948, in Topeka. She survives.

    Other survivors include a son, Kenneth Harden, Fremont, Calif.; two daughters, Kathy Hogle, Topeka, and Pam Pittenger, Raleigh, N.C.; three brothers, Orval "Son” Harden, Flush, Robert Harden, Rossville, and Wilbur Harden, Cleveland, N.C.; three sisters, Loretta Murray and Marcella Wunder, both of Topeka, and Lola Patton, Poulsbo, Wash.; and seven grandchildren.

    Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Parker-Price Mortuary. Burial will be in Prairie Home Cemetery. Mr. Harden will lie in state after 11 a.m. Sunday at the mortuary, where relatives and friends will meet from 5 to 7 p.m.

    Memorial contributions may be made to the Bethel Community Chapel and sent in care of Bruce Ferguson, 2108 S,.E. 38th Circle, Topeka, 66609-1561.

    Ova Henry Harden
    Ova Henry Harden, 69, Topeka, died of complications from Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP) Thursday evening, July 8, 1999, at his home in Topeka.

    He was born July 21, 1929, in Dover, the son of Orval Henry and Goldie Bell Lister Harden.

    He lived most of his life in the Silver Lake area and Bethel Community.

    Mr. Harden attended Rossville High School and graduated from Silver Lake High School. He received an accounting degree from Washburn University.

    He was a member of Bethel Chapel Community Church, Bethel Literary Society, and Moose Lodge No. 555. He coached toys’ baseball and girls’ softball leagues, both in Silver Lake anti Topeka.

    He retired from, Dean’s Excavating and as office manager from Century Lumber Company. He previously worked at Gregg Tire and Goodyear Tire Company, lie also farmed all of his life.

    On May 15, 1948, he was married to Erma Ruth Anderson in Topeka. She survives.

    Other survivors include a son, Kenneth Harden, Fremont, CA; two daughters, Kathy Hogle, Topeka, and Pain Pittenger, Raleigh, NC; three brothers, Orval “Son" Harden, Flush, Robert Harden, Rossville, and Wilbur Harden, Cleveland, NC; three sisters, Loretta Murray and Marcella Wunder, both of Topeka, and Lola Patton, Poulsba WA; and seven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his half-brother, Homer Colter.

    The family received friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the Parker-Price Mortuary in Topeka. His service was at 11 a.m. Monday, at the funeral home. Burial was in Prairie Home Cemetery, NW 35th and Menoken Road, Topeka.
