    Alberta Patricia Harris
    ST. MARYS — Alberta Patricia Harris, 90, St. Marys, died Thursday, Jan. 1,1998, at a Rossville nursing home.

    Mrs. Harris worked for the United Fruit Co. in Cristobal, in the Panama Canal Zone, and later was a clerk for the Panama Canal Co, She also had worked for police departments in Florida and in California, and she was a civilian employee for the U.S. Navy at Treasure Island. She was a medical transcriptionist for the Veterans Affairs Hospital at

    Martinez, Calif., and for a physician in private practice in Antioch, Calif., until she retired.

    She was born March 7, 1907, in Pittsburgh, Pa., the daughter of Hugh Vincent and Selma Louise Augusta Klitsch Powers. She was raised and attended school in the Panama Canal Zone. She lived in St. Petersburg, Fla., for 43 years and then in several communities in California. She lived in St. Marys for 10 years before she moved to Rossville in May 1996.

    Mrs. Harris was a member of St. Marys United Methodist Church, St. Marys Senior Citizens and the Tuesday Afternoon Bridge Club in St. Marys.

    She married Homer Roy Harris on March 16, 1929. He died March 8, 1945.

    Survivors include three daughters, Anita H. Janssen, St. Marys, Louise H. Bradshaw, Antioch, Calif., and Marion H. Buol, Petaluma, Calif.; 12 grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; seven stepgreat-grandchildren; and four stepgreat-great-grandchildren.

    Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the St. Marys United Methodist Church. Burial will be at the Valley View Cemetery in St. Marys. Mrs. Harris will lie in state after 2 p.m. Sunday at Piper-Verschelden Funeral Home, where relatives and friends will meet from 7 to 8 p.m.

    Memorial contributions may be made either to the St. Marys United Methodist Church, the St. Marys Senior Citizens, the American Heart Association or to the charity of the donor's choice and sent in care of the funeral home.
