    JOHN FRITZ
John Fritz, a resident of Rossville for the past forty years, passed away unexpectedly last Friday, October 15, at 1116 Taylor, St., Topeka. The news of his passing was a shock to his Rossville relatives and friends, as his condition had improved so favorably that he was to have left last Saturday for his home in Florida.

Mr. Fritz was a native of Somerset, Pa., where he was born January 12, 1850. On the date of his death he was 70 years, 9 months and 3 days old.

When about 20 years old he moved to Illinois in 1870 and in 1874 he was married to Mary Emert at Eldena, Ill. Eight years after his arrival in Illinois, in 1878, he brought his family to Kansas. The family lived first on the old DeBacker farm in the west part of the township, and about the year 1884 moved to the farm now owned by Mrs. Elizabeth Parr. Ten years later to a day, on March 1, 1894 he gave up farming and moved into Rossville occupying the property on the corner of Main and Pottawatomie now owned by Mr. and Mrs. Ted Fields. For a time he conducted a hardware store and became actively engaged in construction work.

In 1911 he bought interests in Florida and moved to Ft. Lauderdale and resumed his business of general contracting and assisted very materially in opening new additions and in the general upbuilding of that city He sold his business in 1921 to his son Charles.

Several years after the death of his first wife he was married to Nana E. Boon, at St. Louis, Mo., in 1911, who survives him. Other surviving relatives are his son, Charles E. Fritz of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., one brother, Oliver, of Beatrice, Neb., one sister. Mrs. Etta Kesler, of Rossville, three half brothers, George of Topeka, Erastus of Lawrence, Kan., and Will of Kansas City; three half sisters Mamie Cronin, Laura Murphy and Lucy Foster, all of Topeka.

Funeral services were held in the Rossville Presbyterian church Monday, October 18, conducted by the Rev. H. L. Nelson. Interment was in Rossville cemetery.
