| Obituary- Hartzell, Gertrude GERTRUDE CLAIR HARTZELL
An impressive and consoling funeral service for Gertrude Hartzell was held Monday at 2:30 p. m. at the Methodist Church, with the pastor, Rev. C.P. Broadfoot officiating.
Soft strains of instrumental musk throughout the service were tenderly played by Mrs. Joe C. Campbell, pianist.
Many beautiful flowers gave ex¬pression of the sincere sympathy of relatives and friends to the bereaved family.
People of the community were grieved to hear of the passing of Gertrude, who died Saturday morning in Topeka, at a Hospital, folowing an illness of eight years. Everything that medical science could do was administered during this long period, but she never seemed to respond to treatment except for short periods.
Gertrude was born in Rossville February 24, 1913, and grew to woman hood in this community. She graduated from the grade school and was a member of the 1930 high school class as an honor student. She was outstanding in the activities in high school and popular in music, being a member of the girls’ quartette and band.
Following her high school gradua¬tion she enrolled at Kansas State at Manhattan for her freshman year. There she was active in 4-H work and a member of the Collegiate 4-H, an honorary organization, the Who’s Who Club.
In her second year of college she entered the University of Oklahoma at Norman, attending only the first semester. While there she affiliated with the Kappa Phi a Methodist organization. Because of illness she came home for a rest through the second semester, hoping to return the next year. This her health never permitted.
Gertrude was a consecrated member of the Methodist Church and very active worker in all departments of the church. She was an influential leader in the Epworth League and Y.C.U. In fact her home, church and school were her world and she was never found wanting with anything to do to better and improve her life.
