Philip E. Hartzell, 84, Topeka, died Tuesday, October 10, 2000, at a Topeka hospital.
Mr. Hartzell farmed near Rossville all of his life. He also had worked at Steel Fixtures and Roach Hardware, both in Topeka.
He was bom February 25, 1916, at Rossville, the son of L.P. and Grace Eversole Hartzell. He graduated from Rossville High School in 1934 and lived in the Rossville and Topeka area all of his life.
Mr. Hartzell was a member of the Rossville Methodist Church for 70 years.
He married Blanche M. Smith on August 17, 1940, in Topeka. She survives.
Other survivors include a brother, Richard L. Hartzell, Houston, TX.
A graveside service was held at 1:30 Friday at the Rossville Cemetery. Visitation was held Thursday from 7 to 8 at Davidson Funeral Home, Topeka.
The family suggest memorial contributions to the Helping Hands Humane Society, sent in care of Davidson Funeral Home, 1035 N. Kansas Ave., Topeka 66608.

Graveside services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Rossville Cemetery north of Rossville. Mr. Hartzell will lie in state at Davidson Funeral Home from noon to 9 p.m. today, where visitation is scheduled for 7 to 8 p.m. today.
