    Mr. and Mrs. E.D. Hartzell of Myrtle Point, Oregon celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary with a surprise pot luck dinner brought in my their neighbors to add to what their daughter, Mrs. Marlin Evans, had slyly prepared while her parents were up town.

    at reception held in Oregon

    Mr. and Mrs E. D. Hartzell of Myrtle Point, Oregon, were honored Sunday afternoon, December 30, at a reception held in the Methodist Church there on the occasion of their 60th wedding anniversary. They were married in Topeka on December 30, 1896, by the Rev. J. G. Maser, Baptist pastor. Both Mr. and Mrs. Hartzell are 81 years of age. They went to Myrtle Point in 1946, Mr. Hartzell serving several years as janitor for an elementary school there. He is now retired.

    Mr. Hartzell was a resident of Rossville for 70 years and spent some time as a janitor in the old “hand days.”

    Mr. and Mrs. Hartzell are the parents of 10 children, seven of whom are living. They are: O. B. Hartzell of Topeka, Mrs. Marlin Evans of Myrtle Point, Allyn Hartzell of Topeka, Mrs. John Shenk, China Lake, Calif., Mrs. Estel Bailey, Littleton, Colo., Mrs. Wayne Light, Mayer, Ariz., and Clyde Hartzell of Ridgecrest, Calif.

    Mr. Hartzell’s parents, the late David and Mrs. Hartzell, were the parents of five children, all of whom are living. Mr. Hartzell passed away at the age of 91 and Mrs. Hartzell lived to the age of 101.

    More than 85 friends and relatives were present at the reception to congratulate, extend greetings and well wishes to these venerable pioneers, among them being Mr. Hartzell’s brother and sister-in-law. Mr. and Mrs. M. D. Hartzell of Seattle.

    RALPH HARTZELL
    A message was received Friday by Rossville relatives of the death of Ralph Hartzell at Joplin, Mo.

    He passed away Friday after a long illness. He had been troubled with high blood pressure for many months.

    Ralph was the son of Mr. and Mrs. E.D. Hartzell, now of Myrtle Point, Oregon, and was born here and attended grade school and graduated from high school here.

    Mr. and Mrs. Hartzell and little daughter have made their home in Joplin, Mo. for some time.

    Funeral services were, held at Joplin Monday, and burial was in Kansas City, Mo.

    Orville Hartzell and Mr. and Mrs. Allyn Hartzell of Topeka; Mr. and Mrs. Estle Bailey of Englewood, Colo., and Mrs. Edna May Light were present for the funeral.
