| Anniversary- Hass, Martin and Eliza Will Celebrate Golden Wedding
Mr. and Mrs. Martin Hass, whose Golden Wedding anniversary falls on Sunday, January 5th, will celebrate the event at their country home north of Rossville.
Mr. and Mrs. Hass were married January 5, 1869 at Holton, Kansas. The guest list will include the children and their families.
Married Fifty Years
Mr. and Mrs. Martin Hass, for forty-two years residents of Rossville township, were married fifty years ago last Sunday, January 5 and the event was fittingly celebrated at their home north of Rossville with a sumptuous dinner. The children and their families were the guests invited.
A few years after their marriage at Holton in 1869, Mr. and Mrs. Hass located on the present home place which at that time contained 40 acres, and through the many lean years of the 70s and 80s kept pegging away and thru their thrift have prospered and greatly increased the original little farm.
Their family consists of four daughters, Mrs. Charles Howerton, Mrs. G.S. Hoover and Mrs. D.N. Davis, of Rossville and Mrs. Nora Hoover, of Holton, and one son, Herman, who lives with his parents. There are five grand-daughters, two grandsons, one great grandson and one great granddaughter.
Mr. Hass is a veteran of the Civil War, being honorably discharged at the close of the war after seeing three years service.

| Obituary- Hass, Martin Martin Hass Died Yesterday
Martin Hass, a resident of Rossville township for the past forty-four years, passed away yesterday at noon after a long illness, with heart trouble and dropsy.
His family has been at his bedside for the past few months as he gradually grew weaker so the end was not unexpected. Mr. Hass would have reached his 77th birthday next month. The funeral will be held tomorrow (Friday) from the home north of Rossville, and interment made in the Rossville cemetery. An obituary will be published next week. |
| Obituary- Hass, Martin 2 Martin Hass was born in Mansfield, Richland county, Ohio, July 9, 1844, died at his home northeast of Rossville June 15, 1921, at the age of 76 years, 11 months and 5 days, after a residence of 41 years on the place where he died.
When about 7 years of age he moved with his parents to Tama county Iowa where the family lived for about six years coming to Kansas in 1857 locating near Holton in Jackson county, continuing his residence there until 1877.
He enlisted in Co. B., 11 Kansas; August 1862. Was on the frontier in Arkansas and Colorado as escort for government trains. Was in one fight on the North Platte about 200 miles northwest of Laramie with about 1500 Indians. Was mustered out in 1865 at Leavenworth and returned to Holton.
In 1869 he was married to Miss Eliza Emma Burnett at Holton. To this union five children were born, all of whom with his widow survive him. They are Mrs. S. F. Hoover, Mrs. Charles Howerton, Mrs. Dave Davis and Herman of Rossville; Mrs. Nora B. Hoover of Holton. He is also survived by two brothers, George Hass of Walla Walla, Wash., and Theodore Hass of Holton; three sisters, Mrs. Lydia Sollner, Downs, Kansas, Mrs. Mary Perry, Shawnee Okla., Mrs. Sophia McCrary, Seattle, Wash.
Mr. Hass early in his life became a member of the Brethren church which faith he espoused until his death. Rev. Hooper of the Oakland Brethren church conducted the funeral services, at the home Friday afternoon, June 17 and the body was interred in the Rossville cemetery.
Mr. Hass has long been one of the substantial citizens of Rossville township and merited the respect of a wide circle of friends.
