| Obituary- Hawks, Sarah SARAH ELIZABETH HAWKS
Sarah Elizabeth Hawks, 85, died Tuesday in a Topeka hospital, where she had been a patient since breaking her hip in a fall a few weeks ago. She was born December 27, 1855, in Atchison County, [missing]. She came to Kansas in l8[missing] and settled in Republic County. She was a member of the Presbyterian church in Rossville.
She is the last of a family of 8 brothers and 2 sisters. Five of the brothers served in the Civil War. She came to Republic County, Kansas, when a young girl and was married to William W. Hawks, Oct. 9, 1876. Most of her married life was spent in Kansas, the family coming to Rossville in 1895, where she has resided since. Mr. Hawks passed away in 1916. Since that time she has made her home with her foster daughter and nephew, Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Zook.
She is survived by her daughter and nephew, two half sisters, Mrs. Frances Work, of San Diego, Calif., and Mrs. Lulu Andrews of Missoula, Mont.; nephews, and two nieces and a host of friends.
She become [sic] a Christian early in life, working in various churches. She become [sic] a member of the Presbyterian church in Rossville about 25 years ago and was active in all branches of the church work as long as she was physically able. Her last surviving brother, Peter Zook of Johnson, Nebr., died during her stay at the hospital. He was laid to rest Jan. 17th.
Funeral services were held today (Thursday) at 2 p. m. in the Presbyterian church, conducted by the Rev. H. L. Nelson.
Music was furnished by Mrs. Albert Reser and Mrs. Arlene Reid with Miss Frances Eversole, accompanying [sic] at the piano.
Pallbearers were: Albert Reser, David Davis, F. R. Dannefer, Glenn Sebring, A. N, White, W. H. Kerr.
Interment was in Rossville cemetery.

Sarah Elizabeth Hawks, 85, Rossville, died Tuesday in a To¬peka hospital. She was born December 27, 1855, in Jefferson County, Missouri. She came to Kansas in 1873, and settled in Republic County. She was a resident of Rossville for the past forty-five years. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Rossville.
She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Frank Zook, of Rossville; two half-sisters, Mrs. Frances Work, of San Diego, Calif.; Mrs. Lulu Andrews, of Missoula, Mont.; md several nieces and nephews.
The body is lying in state at the Parker's Mortuary pending funeral arrangements. Burial will be in the Rossville Cemetery.
