He was born March 15, 1915, in Rossville, the son of Fred and Ida M. Gutshall Heiland. He was a lifelong resident of the Rossville community and was graduated from Rossville High School in 1935. He was a member of the Rossville Presbyterian Church and an associate member of Jimmie Lillard Post No. 31 of the American Legion. He was a retired farmer. He was married to Dolly A. DeGraff on March 18, 1946, in Topeka. She survives. Other survivors include one son, Kenneth Heiland, Duncanville, TX; one daughter, Sandra Fisa, Wisconsin Rapids, WI; one sister, Jennie Roberts, Topeka; one brother, Fred Heiland, Topeka; and eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Funeral services were Friday at 2:00 p.m. at the Parker-Price Mortuary in Topeka. Burial was in Rossville Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Jimmie Lillard Post No. 31, of the American Legion, Rossville, KS 66533.

She survives.
