 | Obituary- Bailey, Mirl 1 BAILEY
Mirl Bailey, the son of Ulyses and Sytha Bailey, was born December 23, 1887 at West Liberty, Kentucky. He was the last of a family of ten children. He passed to his eternal reward in Stormont-Vail Hospital, Topeka, February 22, 1971, at the age of 83 years, 2 months and 1 day, after a lingering illness.
He was married to Effie Day August 11, 1905 at West Lib¬erty, Kentucky. He was pre¬ceded in death by three infant daughters and two grown sons, Thurman and Devere.
They came to Kansas in 1905 and settled in the Delia com¬munity where they worked and raised their family, and helped others along the way.
He is survived by his loving and helpful wife, Effie; four sons and their families, Em¬erson and wife, Edna of Silver Lake, Henry and wife, Myrtle of Delia, Stanley and wife, El¬len of Silver Lake, and Lester of the home near Delia. His son, Thurman who preceded him in death leaving his wife, Bessie and boys, also remain as well as six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren, be¬sides a host of friends and neighbors who will miss his friendship and help. His love for family and encouragement will long be a lift to them and their children.
He was a member of the Pottawatomi United Methodist church and for many years a member of the board of trustees. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge AF&AM No. 50 of Silver Lake.
Thus a long time friend and worker in the community and church will be sadly missed in the home and family, but also by many other friends.
Funeral services were held at the Mercer Funeral Home on February 25 at 2 p.m. Rev. Robert Lamb and Rev. Alex Eckert officiated. Vocal music was furnished by Clyde Rieschick and Claude Rieschick. They were accompanied by Mrs. Dean Stous.
Pallbearers were Gary Bailey, Lanny Bailey, Charles Bailey, Leland Bailey, Woodrow Bailey and Howard Day. The Silver Lake Masonic Lodge conducted graveside services. Interment was in the Walnut Hill Cemetery, Silver Lake.
