Child Drowns In Creek Near Home
Death by drowning came Friday noon, September 26, to Judy Marie Hladky, 1 1/2-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Garnett Hladky, living on a farm five miles northeast of Emmett.

Judy’s body was found in a creek traversing the farm. When last seen ten minutes earlier by her father, who was harrowing about 200 feet away, she was standing on a bridge crossing the creek. Evidently she had fallen, her head striking a rock.

The drowning occurred in less than seven inches of water. Just across the pool tire depth was three feet.

The child was brought to St. Marys in a vain hope for resuscitation, but was pronounced dead by the examining physician.

Judy Marie Hladky is survived by her parents and one brother; also by her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Jim Wells of St. Marys and E. E. Hladky of Emmett.

Rev. John J. Clinton, Methodist pastor, was in charge of the funeral at the Tessendorf parlor last Sunday afternoon. Burial was in the Greenwood cemetery in Kaw township.— St. Marys Star.
