Muriel M. Huggins, 83, Delia, died Friday, October 23, 1992, at the United Methodist Home in Topeka.
She was born July 19, 1909, in Enterprise, the daughter of Fred and Alice Kuhn Merillat. She lived in Delia until she went to Topeka in 1984. She graduated from Washburn University and received a Master’s Degree from Emporia University.
Mrs. Huggins taught school in Delia, Emmett and Rossville high schools for 28 years. She studied in Mexico during summers and supervised a student trip one year.
She was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Delia, where she taught Sunday School and belonged to the Quilters Group. She was a member of the Extension Homemakers Unit at Delia and the Carpenter’s Auxiliary #95 at Topeka.
She was married to Joseph V. Huggins, July 18, 1929 in Lawrence. He preceded her in death.
Survivors include two daughters, Muriel Wilson, St. George, and Shirley Oliver, Maple Hill; two sons, Cecil Huggins, Mayetta, and Jim Huggins, Topeka; one sister, Alice Knoll, Topeka; 16 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.

DELIA -- Muriel M. Huggins, 83, Delia, died Friday, Oct. 23, 1992, at a Topeka nursing home.
She was born July 19, 1909, at Enterprise, the daughter of Fred and Alice Kuhns Merillat. She was graduated from Washburn University and earned a master's degree from Emporia State University. She was a teacher for 28 years at Delia, Rossville and Emmett High Schools. She studied in Mexico during summers. She had lived in Delia since 1947. In 1984, she moved to Topeka.
She was a member of Delia Presbyterian Church, where she taught Sunday School. She was also a member of the Extension Home Unit at Delia and Carpenters Auxiliary No. 95 in Topeka.
She was married to Joseph V. Huggins on July 18, 1929, in Lawrence. He preceded her in death.
Survivors include two daughters, Muriel Wilson, St. George, and Shirley Oliver, Maple Hill; two sons, Cecil Huggins, Mayetta, and Jim Huggins, Topeka; a sister, Alice Knoll, Topeka; 16 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Delia Presbyterian Church. Burial will be in Delia Cemetery. Mrs. Huggins will lie in state after 2 p.m. Monday at Verschelden Funeral Chapel in St. Marys.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Delia Presbyterian Church.
