DELIA — Mr. and Mrs. Michael B. Hurla of Delia are observing their 50th wedding anniversary with a Mass of Thanksgiving at the Sacred Heart Church in Delia at 10 a.m. and an open house at their farm home northeast of Delia from 2 to 5 p.m. The couple are parents of nine sons and daughters. There are 60 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Anthony John Hurla, 68, Topeka, died Sunday, May 31, at a Topeka hospital.
He was born August 17, 1912, at Delia in Jackson county, the son of Michael and Elizabeth Salisbury Hurla.
Mr. Hurla worked for Santa Fe Railway for 34 years, retiring in 1973, and was a farmer.
He was a member of Catholic Church of the Assumption, Topeka.
He was married to Mary Miller, February 1, 1936, at Topeka. She survives.
Other survivors include five sons, John Hurla, David Hurla, Michael Hurla and Louis Hurla, all of Topeka, and Stephen Hurla, Longmont, Colorado; three daughters, Mrs. Dorothy Hammer and Mrs. Carolyn Lawton, both of Topeka, and Mrs. Margaret Montgomery, Mayetta; two brothers, Joseph Hurla, Topeka, and Bernard Hurla, Paxico; six sisters, Mrs. Charlotte Bixby, Rossville, Mrs. Buehla Curran, Big Springs, Mrs. Marcia McCarter, Carbondale, Mrs. Elizabeth Seematter, Beatty, and Mrs. Mary Bridges and Mrs. Regina Riddle, both of Topeka; and 24 grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Catholic Church of the Assumption.
Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Mr. Hurla will lie in state from 2 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Brennan Funeral Home. A rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
