Mr. Hurla was a heavy-equipment operator who worked out of Operating Engineers Union Local No. 101. He later worked for the City of Topeka Street Department. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He was born March 19, 1921, in Delia, the son of Michael and Elizabeth Salisbury Hurla. Mr. Hurla was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic church and the Nocturnal Adoration Society, both in Topeka. He was married to Phyllis Ann Boyer August 6, 1953, in St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Moline. She died July 20, 1982. Survivors include two daughters, Ramona Flower and Jolene Weston, both of Topeka; three sons, Patrick Hurla, at home, Alan Hurla, Topeka, and Gregory Hurla, Overbrook; six sisters, Charlotte Bixby, Rossville, Beulah Curran, Big Springs, Monica McCarter, Carbondale, Elizabeth Seematter, Marysville, and Mary Bridges and Regina Riddle, both of Topeka; a brother, Bernard Hurla, Paxico; and nine grandchildren.

Mr. Hurla will lie in state from 2 until 9 p.m. today at the church where rosaries will be recited by the Nocturnal Adoration Society at 6:30 p.m. and the Parish at 8 p.m. today Memorial contributions may be made to Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 312 Freeman, 66616.
