Mrs. Effie L. Tibbs
SILVER LAKE - Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at the United Methodist Church here for Mrs. Effie Lavina Tibbs, 95, rural Silver Lake. She died Saturday, Oct. 18, at her home.
Robert D. Jensen, Shawnee County deputy district coroner, said Mrs. Tibbs died of asphyxia caused by the weight of a riding lawn mower that came to rest on her after a mowing accident.
Mrs. Tibbs had worked at the Topeka Supply Depot during the 1940s.
She was born Aug. 7, 1891, at Silver Lake, the daughter of James Wesley and Sarah Elizabeth Pressgrove Moats. She spent her life in the Silver Lake area.
Mrs. Tibbs was a member of the Silver Lake United Methodist Church and Grove Extension Homemakers Unit more than 50 years. She completed the Mrs. Flo V. Menninger Bible Course in the 1950s.
She was married to Earl Johnson Tibbs Jan. 26, 1927. He died June 8, 1961.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Sarah Earline Pugh, Route 2, Mayetta; a son, Edgar Wesley Tibbs, 831 N.W. Dorn Lane, Topeka; a sister, Mrs. Ruth E. Burkepile, Hoxie; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Burial will be in Walnut Hill Cemetery at Grove. Mrs. Tibbs will lie in state after 10 a.m. Thursday at Parker-Price Mortuary in Topeka.
