| Obituary- Hesse, Catherine CATHERINE EVELYN HESSE
Catherine Evelyn Hesse, St. Marys, 80, died Friday, March 21, 2008, at the Community Hospital in St. Marys.
She was born March 15, 1928, on a farm near Emporia, the daughter of Samuel Giles and Sarah Agnes Dowling Dunn.
Evelyn was raised in Emmett, Topeka and St. Marys. She graduated from Immaculate Conception Catholic High School in St. Marys. She moved to Kansas City and later to New Jersey where she worked in a bank and then for the V.A. Hospital. Evelyn transferred to the V.A. Hospital in Leavenworth and later to the Topeka V.A. Hospital where she was an agent cashier until she retired. She had lived in St. Marys since 1981.
She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in St. Marys and led the rosary on Saturday evenings. While in New Jersey she had been the president of a V.F.W. Auxiliary. Evelyn was a member of Jimmie Lillard Post No. 31 Auxiliary in Rossville where she had served as chaplain. She was a member of the St. Marys Housing Authority Board.
She was married to Edgar Gilbert Simpkins; they later divorced. She married Conrad E. “Connie” Hesse on Nov. 8, 1981, in Topeka. He survives of the home.
Other survivors include a son, Thomas Simpkins, Topeka; a daughter, Eileen Wagner, Springfield, Mo.; two sisters, Sister Agnes Eileen, Sisters of Charity Motherhouse, Leavenworth and Pat Muller, St. Marys; grandchildren, Tara Wagner, Derrick, Jeremy and Catherine Simpkins.
Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Monday, March 24, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in St. Marys.
Interment was in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, St. Marys.
