    Mr. and Mrs. Kelsey were married Sept. 15, 1919 in Nevada, Mo., and have lived in Topeka over 50 years. Mr. Kelsey was engaged in farming in the Kaw Valley until his retirement. They have seven grandchildren.

    Samuel Gaylord Kelsey
    Samuel Gaylord Kelsey, 90, Topeka, died Sept. 4, 2012, at Midland Hospice. He was born Jan. 22,1922, in Topeka, the son of Scott E. and Iva
    M. (Carothers) Kelsey. Sam graduated from Topeka High in 1940. He farmed with his father, brothers, and son. Sam was active in many organizations during his lifetime, including Silver Lake United Methodist Church and Silver Lake Senior Citizens.

    He was married to Ruth Knox in August 1943. She preceded him in death in February 1948. He was married to Wauneta Ludy in November 1948. She preceded him in death in December 1987. He was married to Mary Ann Sage in January 2000.

    Surviving are his three children, Gaylord Kelsey and wife Connie of Silver Lake, Francis Kelsey and wife Jane of Topeka, and Rebecca Arce and husband Anthony of Topeka; a brother, Scott Kelsey and wife Faye of Edmond, Okla.; a sister-in-law, Greta Kelsey of Topeka; two grandsons, Brant of LaGrange, Ga., and Sean of Topeka; and two great-grandchildren, Ruthie and Oliver. Sam was preceded in death by a brother, Richard.

    Funeral services were Sept. 7 at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, Topeka. Topeka Lodge 17, AF&AM, conducted Masonic graveside services at Topeka Cemetery. Topeka Scottish Rite Bodies conducted Rose Croix services Sept. 6 at the funeral chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to the Silver Lake United Methodist Church Endowment Fund, P.O. Box 188, Silver Lake, KS 66539 or Midland Hospice, 200 SW Frazier Circle, Topeka, KS 66606-2800.

Sam will lie in state after 3:00 PM, Thurs., at the funeral chapel where the family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:00 PM.
