    Miss Vivian Zickefoose and Mr. George Kovar were united in marriage last Thursday, February 21, by the Riley county probate judge at Manhattan.

    Both young people, are well and, favorably known by the people of the communities of Rossville and Delia. Mr. Kovar is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Kovar, of route 13. He is a graduate of the Delia high school. Last year he attended K. S. A. C.

    Mrs. Kovar is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Zickefoose. She received her schooling in the Delia high school graduating with last year’s class. She is at present teaching the Twin Rose school north of Rossville. So soon as Mrs. Kovar’s school closes in the spring they will make their home on a farm near Emmett owned by Mr. Kovar.

    50th Anniversary
    Mr. and Mrs. George Kovar, 10120 W. 61st, Merriam, Ks., observed their 50th wedding anniversary with an open house February 17 at the Overland Park Christian Church.

    The reception was hosted by their two children, Mr. and Mrs Gilbert Kovar and Mr. and Mrs. Richard McCullough, seven grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

    Mr. and Mrs. Kovar were both born and raised in the Rossville- Delia community. Both are graduates of Delia High School. Mrs. Kovar is the former Vivian Zickefoose.

    George Kovar
    George Kovar, 92, Merriam, died
    December 14, 1989, in the Sharonlane Nursing Home in Shawnee.

    He was born in Rossville and moved to Merriam in 1935.

    Mr. Kovar worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 30 years, retiring as a railway clerk supervisor in 1958.

    He was a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees; and a member and elder of Overland Park Christian Church. He was an Army veteran of World War I and a member of the Peter Smith Post of the American Legion and the Shawnee Mission Barracks of the Veterans of World War I.

    Mr. Kovar was a member of the Shawnee Masonic Lodge and the Johnson County Past Masters Club.

    Survivors include his wife, Hazel Vivian Kovar, of the home; a son, Gilbert G. Kovar, and a daughter, Hazel J. McCullough, both of Overland Park; two brothers, Emial Kovar, Rossville, and Henry Kovar, Overland Park; a sister, Letha Olejnik, Delia; six grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

    Services were at the Amos Family Chapel, Shawnee. Burial was in Pleasant View Cemetery.

    Memorial contributions may be made to the George Kovar memorial fund at the church.
