Kovar of Utica, Nebraska. Rev. Kovar is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Kovar living north of Rossville. The bride and groom first met in Utica where Mrs. Kovar is a teacher and director of music in the Utica Public schools and Rev. Kovar is pastor of the First Presbyterian church. The bride is a native of Nebraska. She received her education at Hastings college, Hastings Nebraska, and is a graduate of the Nebraska University of Lincoln. Mrs. Kovar was elected to the honorary society of Phi Beta Kappa in the school of fine arts. The groom received his basic training at Kansas State college of Manhattan, Kansas. After a short career of research and high school teaching experience he entered the Presbyterian Theological Seminary of Omaha in preparation for the ministry and during the past two years he has served the Utica Pastorate. In connection, during the past year, Rev. Kovar served on the university faculty of the Municipal University of Omaha. The Rev. and Mrs. Kovar were married in Jewell, Kansas, on October 10, and they will make their home in Utica, Nebraska.

• Documents » Slide Show		Obituary- Kovar, Louis 1 Dr. Kovar Rites to Be Friday Funeral services will be held Friday at 6 p.m. in the First Presbyterian Church for Dr. Louis J. Kovar, 53 of 3229 Proctor Street, pastor of the church, who died unexpectedly Wed. at 9:45 p.m. in the St. Marys Hospital (Mar 1, 1961). He had been taken to the Hospital after being stricken at 8:30 p.m. while attending a Rotary Club Banquet in Beaumont. Dr. and Mrs. Kovar and Mr. and Mrs. Jack Blanton Sr., had driven to Beaumont for the meeting, and the pastor appeared in unusual health. He chatted with his companions during the trip and greeted friends on arriving at the crowded banquet hall. Preliminaries of the program were in progress, and the meal had not been served. The party was seated at a table near the front of the room. Blanton’s first realization that Dr. Kovar was ill came when he dropped a glass of water he had raised to his lips, and seemed to sit rigid. Blanton and others inquired if he was feeling bad, and the minister was unable to answer. Doctors sitting nearby came to the table. Only words that Blanton heard Dr. Kovar utter were, “Get Ben White,” his personal physician here. The pastor was unable to use his hands, paralysis having gripped his body.
  		Obituary- Kovar, Louis 2 Rotarians lifted the stricken clergyman in his chair and bodily carried him to the ambulance which had been summoned. Doctor Kovar apparently lost consciousness en route to the hospital here. He was accompanied on the ride by Mrs. Kovar and others. Dr. Kovar was born near Rossville, Kans. After finishing high school in Delia, Kans., he attended Kansas State University, where he received a B.S. degree in 1931. In 1935, he received his B.D. degree from Presbyterian Theological Seminary in Omaha, Neb. He was awarded a P.H.D. degree from Macalister College in St. Paul, Minn. in 1956. The same year he became pastor of the First Presbyterian Church here. After his ordination in the Presbytery of Topeka in 1935, he held numerous pastorates in Oklahoma, Missouri, Minnesota and attended as a missionary and observer, a school for Indian Mission work in Metlakatla, Alaska. At the time of his death he was making plans for a cruise tour to Canada and Alaska as a leader of a Presbyterian
  		Obituary- Kovar, Louis 3 Group in late July and early August. Dr. Kovar’s articles, sermons, poems, and dramas have been published in numerous magazines, periodicals, and anthologies and he was widely known as a leader and scholar in Presbyterian activities. He was a member of the Port Arthur Rotary Club, a past president of the Port Arthur Ministerial Alliance and had taken an active part in civic affairs since coming to this city. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Doris Kovar, one son, Lynn Kovar, a daughter, Mary Kovar, all of Port Arthur; three brothers, Frank Kovar of Rogers, Texas, Clyde and Ed Kovar of Rossville, Kan., and two sisters, Mrs. Viola Gideon, of Paxico, Kan., and Mrs. Millie Badura of Rossville. Dr. Kovar’s body will lie in state in the church from today at 5 p.m. until time for the services. Following the service the body will be sent to Juniata, Neb. for burial in the Juniata Cemetery. It has been requested by Dr. Kovar’s family that friends make memorial donations to the church building fund in lieu of floral tribute. Buried in Neb. Mon, at 2:30 p.m. Mar. 6, 1961.
