The marriage of Miss Wilma June Hotzel, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William M. Hotzel, Topeka, to Mr. Ernest L. Kratina, took place May 3, in the Assumption Church at Topeka with Msgr. Eugene Vallely officiating. A breakfast in the Green Room at the Hotel Jayhawk followed. Private Kratina is the son of Frank Kratina, of Chicago, formerly of the Rossville community. He was with the Boeing Aircraft Corporation in Wichita for three years. Mrs. Kratina is a graduate of the Capitol Catholic High School. She plans to join her husband later. |

Ernest and Wilma Kratina celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a surprise reception and dance on May 1 at the Arab Shrine Temple in Topeka.
The event was hosted by their children and their spouses, Ernest and Sheila Kratina, Rossville; Larry and Carol Harris, Topeka; Gary and Linda Ross, St. Louis; Douglas and Sharon Brehm, Topeka; and Cynthia Kratina, Topeka. The Kratinas also were parents of another son, the late Bradley Kratina.
Ernest Kratina and Wilma Hotzel were married May 3, 1944, in Topeka.

| Obituary- Kratina, Sr., Ernest ERNEST L. KRATINA SR.
Ernest L. Kratina Sr., 87, Topeka, died Tuesday, April 14, 2009, at Colmery-O’Neil VAMC.
He was born Jan. 23, 1922, at Delia, the son of Frank E. Kratina and Bernice (Uhl). He graduated from Meriden High School and machinist’s technical school at Chicago, Ill.
Ernest served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He retired from Goodyear after 30 years of service. Mr. and Mrs. Kratina owned and operated three Hamburger Haven Cafes in Topeka. He also farmed and dealt in real estate. He was a 65-year member of the Masonic Lodge and a current member of Golden Rule Lodge No. 90, AF & AM; Topeka Scottish Rite Bodies; Arab Shrine Temple; Topeka North Post No. 400 of the American Legion; DAV; and ZCBJ Moravian Lodge No. 128.
Ernest was married to Wilma J. Hotzel on May 3, 1944, in Topeka. She survives. He was preceded in death by a son, Bradley G. Kratina, on Dec. 1, 1993.
Surviving in addition to his wife are a son: Dr. Ernest L. Kratina Jr. of Delia; four daughters: Carol A. Harris of Topeka, Linda K. Ross of St. Louis, Mo., Sharon E. Brehm of Topeka, and Cynthia S. Schreiner of Topeka; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Graveside services were held Saturday, April 18, at Prairie Home Cemetery, NW 35th & Menoken Road. Masonic services will be conducted by Golden Rule Lodge No. 90, AF&AM.
