    25TH WEDDING ANNIVERSARY
    Mr. and Mrs. Henry Martinek were pleasantly surprised Saturday evening when a group of friends and neighbors came in to help them celebrate their 25th Wedding Anniversary.

    They received many lovely gifts. Among them was a set of silverware from JoAnn and Mary.

    The evening was spent visiting and watching television. At a late hour, refreshments of home made ice cream and cake, sandwiches and ice tea were served.

    Those present were: Mr. and Mrs. Henry Martinek, Mrs. Cecelia Schumaker, Larry and Catherine, Mr. and Mrs. Glen Davis, Ronnie and Dennie, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Dolezilek and Bobby, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Mason, Mr. and Mrs. Cletus Reading, Mr. and Mrs. Luther McClain and Shelley, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Cerny and Marcia.     Henry Martinek

    ROSSVILLE -- Henry R. Martinek, 97, Rossville, died Monday, June 10, 2002, at a Topeka hospital.

    Mr. Martinek farmed and later worked for the Union Pacific Railroad and at the dehydrator plant in Rossville. He worked at Forbes Air Force Base in Topeka from 1958 until he retired in 1971.

    He was born Feb. 4, 1905, near Rossville, the son of Vincent and Agnes Simecka Martinek. He was raised in the Rossville community and attended Victor 101 School.

    Mr. Martinek was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Delia and St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Rossville.

    He married Regina Marie Ryan on June 26, 1929, in St. Marys. She died on July 3, 1989. Mr. Martinek also was preceded in death by a daughter, Agnes White, on Jan. 8, 1998, a son, Henry R. Martinek Jr., in 1941, and a granddaughter, Kathy Brinkman, on Oct. 21, 1991.

    Survivors include two daughters, Mary Schumaker, St. Marys, and Jo Copeland, Rossville; a son Vincent Martinek, Topeka; a sister, Helen Macha, Rossville; 13 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; seven stepgreat-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandson.

    Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Rossville. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery in St. Marys. Mr. Martinek will lie in state after 5 p.m. Thursday at Piper-Verschelden Funeral Home in St. Marys, where a rosary will be recited at 7 p.m.

    Memorial contributions may be made to St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Rossville and sent in care of the funeral home.

    Henry Martinek
