    Maynard Mason
This community bows in memory of Maynard Mason. Yes, to the memory along.

Before the holidays he busied himself, in his thoughtful ambitious way getting presents for friends near and dear to him -- and they were many. But he didn't get to enjoy Christmas day nor the gifts he received. He was too ill.

The photograph , a beautiful likeness he gave me, is a keepsake that I can look at only through mist-covered eyes. His obituary is now pasted on the cover opposite the pleasant face that is gone forever.

Stricken at nine, Maynard fought cheerfully and hopefully against diabetes, an affliction that medical science has sought vainly to conquer. But that wasn't enough. Flue, pneumonia, heart trouble and complications cruelly allied themselves with diabetes to take one of the most likeable boys this community ever knew. And till just a few days before the end it seemed like his fighting heart would best them all. But it wasn't to be. God commanded from the pages of the Good Book, "Suffer little children and Come unto me."

From that scriptural quotation his weary, heart-broken friends who loved him can find their only consolation: God has beckoned him to that infinite somewhere, where there is no more suffering, no more sickness, no dieting, and no more insulin. Goodbye, Maynard. God bless you. --A Friend

    IN MEMORIAM
We, the teachers and students of RHS are deeply grieved over the loss of our pupil and fellow classmate, Maynard Mason. Maynard's (King's) laughter and companionship will be sadly missed by all because he had that quality, rarely found in one of his age, to make friends with both young and old. In spite of his ill health he possessed many qualities which made him a good all-around American youth. Although Maynard is gone, his memory will long linger in the minds and hearts of all who knew him.
