MARY MATTAN
Mrs. Mary Mattan, 97, formerly of Delia, died Friday, February 26, 1982, at a Rossville nursing home.
She was born June 5, 1884, at Annawan, Ill., the daughter of August and Louise Cushman VandeVelde. She moved to Shawnee when a small child and to Delia in 1915.
Mrs. Mattan was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church, Emmett, and the Altar Society of the church.
She married Emiel Mattan October 30, 1906, at Shawnee. He died September 7, 1949. Two sons also preceded her in death. Henry Mattan in 1931, and Albert Mattan in 1961.
Survivors include four daughters, Mrs. Elizabeth Tholl and Mrs. Mary Cowan, both of Rossville, and Mrs. Anna Tholl and Mrs. Louise VandeWoestyne, both of Colona, Ill.; two sons, Remi Mattan, Delia, and August Mattan, Cordova, Ill.; 26 grandchildren; 68 great-grandchildren; and four great- great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday in Holy Cross Catholic Church. Burial was in Holy Cross Cemetery, Emmett. Rosary was recited at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at Verschelden Funeral Home, St. Marys.
Casket bearers were Ed Tholl, Mark Cowan, Greg Maney, Bob Mattan, Dick Mattan. and John Fifer.
