    Remi C. Mattan
    Remi C. Mattan, 92, Emmett, died Friday, February 4, 2000, at Community Hospital Onaga.

    He was born August 16,1907, in Shawnee, the son of Emiel and Mary Louise VandeVelde Mattan. He lived all of his life in the Emmett and Delia communities.

    Mr. Mattan was a farmer. He was a member of the Holy Cross Catholic Church in Emmett, a member of the Grove Harvest Grange, and an Honorary Life Member of the Knights of Columbus Council No. 657 at St. Marys.

    He married Theresa Jane Burget in Delia. They were divorced.

    Surviving him are a daughter, Mary Ann Obenchain, Twin Falls, ID; a son, Remi A. Mattan, Falls City, NE; three sisters, Elizabeth Tholl, Rossville, Louise Vande Woestyne, Colona, IL, and Mary Cowan, Silver Lake; a brother, August Mattan, Clinton, IA; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

    A prayer service was held at 7 p.m. Monday at Piper-Verschelden Funeral Home in St. Marys, followed by a Knights of Columbus Rosary. Mass of Christian Burial was at 10:00 Tuesday (this morning) at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Emmett; burial was in Holy Cross Cemetery.

    Memorial contributions may be made to the Holy Cross Catholic Church or the St. Marys Home Health Department and sent in care of the funeral home.

    EMMETT — Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Emmett for Remi C. Mattan, 92, Emmett, who died Friday, Feb. 4,2000, at an Onaga hospital.

    He was born Aug. 16,1907, in Shawnee, to Emial and Mary Louise Vande Velde Mattan, and spent his life in the Emmett and Delia communities. He was a farmer.

    He was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church in Emmett and the Grove Grange. He was an honorary life member of Knights of Columbus Council No. 657 in St. Marys.

    He married Theresa Jane Burget in Delia. They divorced. A granddaughter, Delores Mattan, preceded him in death.

    Survivors include a son, Remi A. Mattan, Falls City, Neb.; a daughter, Mary Ann Obenchain, Twin Falls, Idaho; a brother, August Mattan, Clinton, Iowa; three sisters, Elizabeth Tholl, Rossville, Louise Vande Woestyne, Colona, III., and Mary Cowan, Silver Lake; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

    Burial will be in Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery in Emmett. Mr. Mattan will lie in state after 3 p.nr. today at Piper-Verschelden Funeral Home in St. Marys, where a prayer service at 7 p.m. will be followed by a Knights of Columbus rosary.
