He came to America at the age of 19 and lived in Canada and Michigan. It was while he was studying law in the office of Judge Williams at Allegan, Mich. the latter was appointed by Gov. Blair, of Michigan to raise a regiment for the Union army in the struggle then being waged between the north and south, and Mrs. Maver enlisted in Co. E. 28th, regiment, Michigan 1nf., on August 28, 1864, at the postoffice, in Kalamazoo, Michigan, for a term of three years. In October 1864 he was transferred to the N. C. After leaving the army he resided at Detroit, Mich., from 1866 to 1868 when he came to Kansas and located at Lowell, Cherokee county. He was admitted to the bar at Neosho, Mo., in 1869 and lived at Columbus, Kansas, until fall of 1870 when he left for Hamilton, N.Y., and attended Colgate University until his graduation in June 1872.

He began preaching at Boulder, Colo., where he labored for eighteen months and was ordained there. After leaving Boulder he preached in Greenwood county, Kan, Pleasant Hill, Mo. and Silver Lake, Kans. In 1877 he was pastor at Manhattan, Kansas, where he remained for four years. It was while at Manhattan he built the Baptist church in Rossville, which was dedicated in February 1879. After leaving Manhattan he labored at Anoka, Minn., and Baraboo, Wis. for a few years and returned to Rossville in 1887 where he remained until 1894 when he moved to Topeka, making occasional visits back to Rossville for services in the Baptist church. For the past six years he has made his home in the home at Dodge City. Rev. Maver was one of the most popular ministers to labor in Rossville and was liked by believers in every faith in the community. He retained his membership in the Masonic lodge of this city and the Workmen to the last. The funeral was held Wednesday November 26, and the remains buried in Topeka. He is survived by his widow.
