| Obituary- McCarther, Arthur Arthur W. “Bill” McCarter
Arthur W. “Bill” McCarter, 79, of Topeka, passed away Saturday, March 03,2012.
He was born January 1,1933, in Rossville, KS, the son of Arthur Marshall and Monica (Hurla) McCarter. He was a graduate of Topeka High School.
Mr. McCarter was employed by the City of Topeka for 59 years, retiring in 2010. He served in the Army National Guard in Topeka for 43 years until retiring in 1993.
He was a member of Topeka Jayhawk Club and served as a volunteer usher at the University of Kansas Athletics. He was a Boy Scout Leader, Little League Baseball and Basketball Coach and had served as PTA President for State Street Elementary.
Bill married Shirley Creech on May 3, 1953, in Topeka. She preceded him in death on October 7, 2003. Survivors include his children, Linda Baxley, Eugene, OR, Carolyn (Jerry) McCart, Terry (Brenda) McCarter, Brett (Lisa) McCarter, all of Topeka; four grandchildren, Jason Evendorf, Morgan Unrein, Tara Prockish and Janelle Evendorf; 7great-grandchildren; five brothers, Joe, Jim, Jerry, Mike and Charlie McCarter, and two sisters, Dolores “Sis” Weekley and Anna Mae Lucas.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Karen McCarter, and a sister, Mary Dewey.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m., Thursday, March 8, 2012, at the Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence Ave., Topeka, KS 66608. Interment with National Guard Honors will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Topeka. Mr. McCarter will lie in state after 3 p.m., Wednesday at the funeral home where the family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer’s Association, P.O.
