    Ceremonies mark 50 years of marriage for the Kerwins
    Mr. and Mrs. Robert E. Kerwin, Delia, celebrated their Golden Wedding anniversary, Sunday, June 26, beginning with a Mass of thanksgiving at 9:00 a.m. in Sacred Heart Church of Delia. The Rev. George Seuferling, pastor, was the celebrant, when the couple renewed their wedding vows.

    Mr. and Mrs. Kerwin were married in the same church on June 28, 1916, and have spent their entire life in the Delia community.

    Servers at the Mass were a grandson, Michael Kerwin, and Duane Scott, both of Delia.

    The original attendants, Mrs. Grace Cowan, of Delia, and Roy Murry, Topeka; Mrs. Josephine Murry, Topeka, a sister of Mrs. Kerwin, and Mrs. Jim Hamilton, Partridge, a sister of Mr. Kerwin, were present.

    A large basket of yellow gladioli, a gift of the sons and their families, Mr. and Mrs. Jim Hamilton and Miss Helen Hamilton grace the church altar.

    A dinner honoring the golden jubilarians was held at 11:00 a.m. in the Delia High School, prepared by ladies of the Sacred Heart Altar Society, and served by Barbara and Delores Simecka, Sheila Brock, and Darlene Scott. Covers were laid for the following guests:

    Mr. and Mrs. Robert A. Kerwin, Marita, Jean, Michael, Janet, and Kevin, Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Kerwin, Mr. and Mrs. Clinton Kerwin, Bobby and Terri, Duane Scott, all of Delia; Leo Kerwin, and Miss Virginia Bowman, Kansas City, Kansas.

    Candelabra, with gold tapers, red carnations sprayed with gold (a gift of the Altar Society), centered the main dining table. Leo Kerwin was emcee; Kenneth Kerwin gave the toast; Bob Kerwin, the invocation; Clinton Kerwin, benediction. Mrs. R.A. Kerwin and daughter Marita, played and sang for the group, dedicating "Adoration" to the honored couple. The grandchildren also sang a special number for their grandparents.

    A reception, arranged by Mrs. R.A. Kerwin, was held from two to four o'clock in the Delia High School auditorium.

    The serving table was covered with a white linen cloth. Two candelabra holding yellow tapers and cascading yellow mums, flanked the wedding cake.

    Presiding at the punch bowl was Miss Helen Hamilton. Mrs. Ray Dohrman, St. Marys, a niece of Mrs. R.E. Kerwin, and Mrs. Leo Hanrahan served the wedding cake.

    At the gift table we're Mrs. Kenneth Kerwin and Miss Virginia Bowman. Mrs. Clinton Kerwin, who had fashioned the money tree, was in charge of money gifts.

    Marita Kerwin took care of the guest book, and Jean and Janet Kerwin distributed satin remembrance roses to the guests. The roses were hand-fashioned by Mr. and Mrs. John Marshall of Ste. Genevieve, Mo.; Mrs. Marshall is a sister of Mrs. R.A. Kerwin.

    Mrs. Sylvester Scott, Delia, baked the three-tiered wedding cake, which was trimmed in gold and with golden bells. The sheet cakes were made by Mrs. Clinton Kerwin.

    On display at the reception were pictures of the honored couple and their family, gleaned from the past 50 years. The display was arranged by Leo Kerwin. Topping the pictures were the Kerwin-Hanrahan crests, which Leo had purchased while touring Europe last summer.

    A bouquet of large gold chrysanthemums, presented by Mr. and Mrs. Gordon McLin of Grove, was placed near the serving table.

    Mrs. Robert E. Kerwin wore a corsage of yellow cymbidium orchids; Mr. Kerwin, a yellow rose boutonniere; Mrs. Cowan, a corsage of yellow rosebuds; the two sisters, corsages of yellow roses and carnations. The wives of the Kerwin sons, and those assisting at the reception, wore corsages of yellow carnations. Mr. Murry and the sons had boutonnieres of yellow carnations.

    Kerwins to Celebrate Silver Anniversary

    Mr. and Mrs. Robert A. Kerwin, Delia, will celebrate their twenty-fifth wedding anniversary on Sunday, June 13, 1976 with a Mass at 11:30 a.m. in the Sacred Heart Church at Delia.

    Friends and relatives are invited to the Mass, and to the reception in the Centennial Building in St. Marys from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. The couple requests no gifts.

    Hosts will be their children, Mrs. Marita Ronnau, St. Marys; Mrs. Jean Poppelreiter, Maple Hill; Michael, Janet, Kevin and Patrick, all of Delia.

    Mr. and Mrs. Kerwin were married June 2, 1951 in Our Lady of Good Counsel Church in Kansas City, Mo.

    The Kerwins have one grandson, Bryan Joseph Poppelreiter.


    Many Relatives and Friends Help Kerwins Celebrate Silver Anniversary
    Mr. and Mrs. Robert A. Kerwin, Delia, celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary June 13,1976. It was hosted by their children -- Mrs. Marita Ronnau, St. Marys; Mrs. Jean Poppelreiter, Maple Hill; Mike, Janet, Kevin and Patrick, all of Delia. The couple has one grandson, Bryan Joseph Poppelreiter.

    The Kerwins were married June 2,1951 in Our Lady of Good Counsel Church in Kansas City, Mo.

    Their silver wedding celebration began with an 11:30 Mass at Sacred Heart Church in Delia with the Reverend A1 Rockers officiating. Mass servers were Kevin and Patrick Kerwin; Janet Kerwin was the lector.

    Organist was Marita Ronnau. Special hymns were sung by Janet Kerwin and Kathy Floersch and included, “You Fill the Day,” “Receive in Your Heart,” “On the Day, Oh, Beautiful Mother,” and “The Living God.”

    A marriage banner and lector banner in white, pink and silver were designed and made by Mrs. Mary Ruth Lundin and Janet Kerwin, and presented for the church service.

    A reception followed at the Centennial Building in St. Marys from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. The three-tiered wedding cake was decorated with pink roses and silver leaves with a miniature silver dressed bride and groom with silver numerals “25” adorned the top of the cake.

    Silver candelabra with pink candles interspersed with floral arrangements completed the table decorations. The silver candelabra were a gift of Rita’s father to her mother and are over 50 years old. Mrs. Mary Lou DeBacker and Mrs. Jane Elliott of Delia served the cake and punch. Pat Kerwin and the Kerwin’s niece, Florence Marshall of Ste. Genevieve, Mo., were at the guest book. Another niece, Ann Marshall of Ste. Genevieve, Mo., assisted with the gifts.

    A buffet supper was served at 5 p.m. for relatives and friends. Those preparing and serving the dinner were Mrs. Bennie Martinek, Rossville; Mrs. Joe Floersch and Mrs. Dwight Martinek, Kathy and Karen Floersch, all of Delia. Others assisting were Dick Elliott and Dwight Martinek.

    Out-of-town relatives attending the celebration were Mrs. Kerwin’s mother, Mrs. Fred A. Kaullen of Sikeston, Mo.; her sister, Mrs. Barbara Marshall, and her children, Ann, Florence and Johnny, all of Ste. Genevieve, Mo.; Bob’s aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. Jim Hamilton of Partridge, Ks.; Leo Kerwin, Wellsville; Mr. and Mrs. Leo Hanrahan, Mrs. Anna Hanrahan, Mr. and Mrs. Bob Hanrahan and Mr. and Mrs. Dan Cain, Jr., all of Topeka. Also present were Mr. and Mrs. Charles Karnowski, Paul and Patrick, of Kansas City, Ks., friends of the Kerwins.

    Kerwins Will Celebrate Ruby Anniversary
    Mr. and Mrs. Robert A. Kerwin, Delia, will celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary with a Mass of Thanksgiving Sunday, June 2, at 10 a.m. in the Sacred Heart Church, Delia. A reception will be held from 2:30 to 4:30 at the St. Marys Senior Center, St. Marys.

    Robert Kerwin and Rita Kaullen were married June 2, 1951, by the Rev. Robert Martin at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, Kansas City, Mo.

    Hosts for the occasion will be the couple's six children and their spouses: Marita and Charles Ronnau, St. Marys; Jean and John Poppelreiter, Maple Hill; Michael and Lisa Kerwin, Delia; Janet and Gene Foresman, Mesa, Ariz.; Kevin and Tamela Kerwin, Delia; and Patrick Kerwin, St Louis, Mo.     Golden Anniversary For Kerwins
    Robert A. and Rita Kerwin, St. Marys, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with a Mass at 11 a.m. Sunday, June 3,2001, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Delia.

    Robert A. Kerwin and Rita Kaullen were married June 2,1951, by the Rev. Robert Martin at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church in Kansas City, MO. Mr. Kerwin was raised on a farm in Delia. The couple lived there for many years, and moved to St. Marys in January 1998. Mrs. Kerwin was a teacher for many years, and also gave private piano lessons in her home.

    Friends and relatives are invited to attend a reception from 2:00 to 4:00 Sunday afternoon in the community room of the St. Marys State Bank, 905 East Bertrand, St. Marys. The couple requests no gifts other than the pleasure of your company.

    Hosting the occasion will be the couple’s six children and their spouses — Marita and Charles Ronnau, St. Marys; Jean and John Poppelreiter, Maple Hill; Michael and Lisa Kerwin and Kevin and Tamela Kerwin, Delia; Janet and Gene Foresman, Mesa, AZ; and Patrick Kerwin, St. Louis, MO. The couple has 13 grandchildren.

    Robert A. Kerwin
    St. Marys-Robert A. Kerwin, 89 died Monday, April 09, 2007 at the St. Marys Manor.

    He was born May 31, 1917 at Topeka, the son of Robert E. and
    Mary Hanrahan Kerwin. He attended Delia Grade School and graduated from Delia High School in 1936. Mr. Kerwin was a farmer in the Delia community for many years.

    He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Delia and was a current member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in St. Marys. He was a life member of the Knights of Columbus Council No. 657 in St. Marys. He also had been a 4th Degree member of the Thomas A. McNeive Assembly of the Knights of Columbus since 1965. He had served on the Church Council at Sacred Heart for many years. He was a past member of the Delia Lions Club where he held various offices and had served as an officer at the district level. He was a member and officer of the Jackson County ASC Committee. During his retirement Mr. Kerwin enjoyed flowers working in his lawn and watching birds. He was a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather.

    On June 2, 1951 he was united in marriage to Rita M. Kaullen in Kansas City. They made their home in the Delia community for more that 46 years before they moved to St. Marys in January 1998.

    Mr. Kerwin was preceded in death by his wife Rita on March 28, 2005, and by a son Michael Kerwin on November 19, 2001. He also was preceded in death by an infant brother Aloysius.

    Survivors include two sons, Kevin (Tamela) Kerwin, Delia and Patrick Kerwin, St. Louis; three daughters, Marita, (Charles) Ronnau, St. Marys Jean (John) Poppelreiter, Maple Hill and Janet (Gene) Foresman, Mesa, AZ; a daughter-in-law, Lisa Kerwin, Delia; three brothers Kenneth Kerwin,Delia, Clinton Kerwin, Rossville and Leo Kerwin, Wellsville; 13 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.

    Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 A.M. Friday, April 13, 2007 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Interment will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, St. Marys. Mr. Kerwin will lie in state after 2:00 P.M. Thursday, April 12, 2007 at Piper Funeral Home were there will be a vigil service at 7:00 P.M.
