    Obituary- McConnell, John M.
JOHN MOORE MCCONNELL was born at East Hatley, Province of Quebec, Canada, August 3, 1850, and died at his home here Saturday, February 23.

He was the eldest son of Oscar and Rosella McConnell. When but a child his parents moved into the States locating in Jackson county, Missouri, and later coming on to Shawnee county, Kansas, where they established a permanent home.

He was married in 1871 to Sarah Frances Karr, and to this union were born five children, three of whom have preceded him—Jacob, Lina and Edward. The widow and two daughters, Mrs. Lena Robinson and Mrs. Mattie Stover of the immediate family survive. There are also two brothers, four sisters, six grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Mr. McConnell became affiliated with Ohio Lodge No. 132 Independent Order of Odd Fellows in 1901, in which he had since held a membership and enjoyed the privileges and benefits of this order. He retired from active business about fifteen years ago but still retained his residence on the farm which has been the family home for forty-five years. Of a cheerful, happy disposition he had many friends among the young and the old. His home has ever been open to the friend or neighbor who needed a helping hand and it may truly be said of him “He loved his fellowman.”

Funeral services were held Feb. 26, at 2 p. m. at the Silver Lake M. E. church, conducted by Rev. H. L. Nelson, of Topeka, and Rev. Edwin N. Judd of Silver Lake. Interment was in the Prairie Home cemetery.
