    Miss Emma Cottle and Mr. John McConnell were united in the holy bonds of wedlock last Saturday by the Probate Judge in his office at Topeka.

    They returned on the evening train and stopped off at Kingsville and went direct to the home prepared by the groom on the Ensign farm.

    They are both well known young people, who have the best wishes of many friends for their success and happiness. Miss Cottle is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R.F. Cottle and has been employed for some time past as clerk in the Vorhies grocery.

    John Reid McConnell
    John Reid McConnell, 80, Topeka, died Monday, June 10, 1996, at a Topeka hospital.

    Mr. McConnell worked for Duffens Optical Co. until he retired in 1969. He earlier had farmed at Faucett, Mo., and DeKalb, Mo. He was an Army veteran of World War II.

    He was born Sept. 24, 1915, at Rossville, the son of John R. and Emma Cottle McConnell. He had lived in Topeka since 1954.

    Mr. McConnell was a member of Oakland Christian Church and the Paralized Veterans of America.

    He was married to Dorothy E. Waterman on May 24, 1941, at St. Joseph, Mo. She survives.

    Other survivors include a son, John D. “Dan" McConnell, Tecumseh; a daughter, Nancy B. Brunin, Topeka; a sister, Ruby Lawrence, Perry; a brother, James McConnell, St. Joseph, Mo.; six grand¬children; and one great-grandson.

    Cremation is planned. Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Oakland Christian Church. Burial of cremains at West Lawn Memorial Gardens will be private.
