| Obituary- McHardie, Leonard Leonard G. McHardie
WINCHESTER — Leonard C. McHardie, 84, formerly of Winchester, died Friday, Dec. 25, 1998, at a Rossville nursing home.
Mr. McHardie was a farmer and stockman in the Ozawkie and Winchester areas for many years. He also worked at the Cargil Grain Elevator in Kansas City, Kan., for many years and he had been a foundryman for Rockwell International Co. in Atchison before he retired in 1982. He was an Army veteran of World War II.
He was born Dec. 10,1914, in Milwaukee, the son of John H. and Christine Emily Markinson McHardie. He moved to Winchester from Ozawkie in 1966.
He was married to Florence Ida Hedrick on Sept. 15,1941, at Kansas City, Mo. She died May 29, 1980. Mr. McHardie also was preceded in death by a son, Eddie McHardie, and two daugh¬ters, Mary Brown Godfrey and Vera Irizarry.
Survivors include six sons, Wesley Brown, Rockaway Beach, Mo., William McHardie, Winchester, Pete McHardie, Perry, Floyd McHardie, Atchison, Perl E. McHardie, Kansas City, Mo., and Leonard C. McHardie Jr., in Iowa; a daughter, Christine Irizarry, Atchison; two brothers, Eddie McHardie, Kansas City, Mo., and Andrew McHardie, Milwaukee; two sisters, Eleanor Campus, Port Charlotte, Fla., and Emma Lewis, Independence, Mo.; 33 grandchildren; eight step- grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Barnett Funeral Home in Oskaloosa. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery northwest of Oskaloosa. Relatives and friends will meet from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Barnett Funeral Home in Oskaloosa.
