    Homer and Maxine Mongold, Silver Lake, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with a reception Sunday afternoon, March 22, in the fellowship hall of the Silver Lake United Methodist Church, from 2 to 4. The couple requests no gifts, please.

    Maxine Hixon and Homer Mongold were married March 20,1948, at Lawrence.

    They are the parents of the late Sidney “Sid” Dale Mongold, and the grandparents of three — Tammy Mongold Useman, Fort Myers, Fla., Rodney Mongold and Sam Mongold, both of Casper, Wyo.

    Homer is retired from the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company in Topeka. Maxine is a homemaker.

    Homer Dale Mongold
    Homer Dale Mongold, 83, of Silver Lake, died Thurs., March 9, 2006, at Midland Hospice House. He was born Aug. 27, 1922, at Silver Lake, the son of Hiram and Lillian (Goodrich) Mongold.

    He lived his entire life in Grove Township north of Silver Lake and was graduated from Silver Lake High School in 1941. Homer attended the College of Emporia. He served as a Staff Sgt. in the U.S. Army during World War II. He worked for the Santa Fe Railroad, John Morrell, and then for Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. for 31 years. Homer was a member of the Silver Lake United Methodist Church and American Legion Post # 160 of Silver Lake.

    Homer played baseball for the Owls Baseball Club 'of Topeka; the American Legion; and Mongold Men’s Local Baseball Team. He had also managed, a Little League Team. In life fishing was his favorite past-time.

    He was married to Ollie "Maxine" Hixon on-March 20, 1.948 at Lawrence. She preceded him in death on Feb. 18, 2003. He was also preceded in death by a son, Sidney Dale "Sid" Mongold, on Oct. 12,1986.

    Surviving are 3 grandchildren: Tammy Lee Useman of Orlando, FL, Rodney D. Mongold of Kaycee, WY, and Sam E. Mongold of Kaycee, WY; a brother: George F. Mongold of Perry; and numerous nieces and nephews.

    Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m., Tues., March 14, 2006 at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence, Topeka. A Fort Riley U.S. Army Detail will conduct military honors at Walnut Hill Cemetery, Grove. Homer will lie in state after 3:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral chapel where the family will receive friends from 6;30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
