Herschel Francis Bauer, 87, Topeka, passed away Tuesday, August 30, 2011.
Herschel was born Sept. 22, 1923 in Delia KS, the son of Oliver and Alice Vaughn Bauer. He served our country in the US Army during WWII. On July 24, 1945, Herschel and Anna Gudenkauf were united in marriage at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Seneca KS. They enjoyed 66 years together. He was a long-time member of Assumption Church (Mater Dei Parish) and the American Legion, Post 225. Herschel worked for the Santa Fe Railroad for 39 years, retiring in 1978.
Survivors include his wife, Annie Bauer; brother, Eugene Bauer, Topeka; sister, Regina Shook, Columbia SC; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by five brothers and four sisters.
Family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Kevin Brennan Family Funeral Home, 2801 SW Urish Rd, Topeka KS 66614, where a parish rosary will be prayed at 7 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday at Mater Dei Assumption Church. Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
