    OTIS MURPHY
    Otis Murphy, a resident near St. Marys almost continuously for thirty years passed away Saturday, March 1, at SBA hospital, Topeka where he was taken a few hours earlier suffering from a complicated heart ailment.

    Mr. Murphy had been ill for two years. With his family he had been living on a part of the old Black farm, owned by Irl Gulick, on the road to the Valley View cemetery.

    In his active days Mr. Murphy was a farmer in the Pessimer bottoms west of St. Marys. Later he was employed on the railroad section.

    The deceased came from early American stock. He was 5 years old and was born Feb 20, in Valeria, Ky., the son of Silas and Elizabeth Murphy natives of Virginia. His wife was Lotie [sic Lottie] McGuire.

    He is survived by his widow, six children and three grandchildren. The children are Mrs. William Grieshaber and Mrs. Arnold Caudill of St. Marys, Jack and Betty Murphy of the home, Mrs. Eunice Locknish of Newark, New Jersey; and Lloyd of Hudson, Iowa.

    Rev. J. H. Thornberry conducted the funeral services Wednesday after noon at two o’clock in the Methodist church. Interment was at Rossville.

    The pallbearers were, Wayne Salisbury, Joe Perry, William LeBlanc, Art Holverson, George Yocum and Don Short.—St. Marys Star.

    OBITUARY—OTIS MURPHY
    Otis Murphy passed away Saturday night, March 1, 1947, at 11:47 at the SBA Hospital, Topeka, at the age of 54 years and 8 days.

    He was born at Valaria, Kentucky, February 20, 1893, he son of Silas and Elizabeth Murphy. He was united with the Christian Church early in life.

    In the year 1912, on May 12th, he was united in marriage to Lottie McGuire of Maytown, Ky, and came to St. Marys, Kansas in 1918. He farmed 20 years in that vicinity until six years ago.

    He is survived by his wife and six children: Betty and Jack of the home; Mrs. Eunice Locknish, of Newark, New Jersey; Lloyd Murphy of Hudson, Iowa; Mrs. Golda Caudill and Mrs. Edna Grieshaber of St. Marys; three grandchildren, Mary Jo Murphy of Hudson, Iowa, Edward Caudill and Steven Grieshaber of St. Marys; one sister, Mrs. Roy Cannoy of Ashland, Kentucky, ,and two brothers, Clyde and Lloyd Murphy of Middleton, Ohio.

    Music for the funeral, held Wednesday, March 5th, in the St. Marys Methodist Church, was furnished by a quartette composed of Messrs. C. Sharp, J. W. Godbey, Elmore Blackburn and Elmer Salisbury. The bearers were Messrs.Wavne Salisbury Don Short, Wm. LeBlanc, Joe Perry, George Yocum and Arthur Holverson.
    Burial was in Rossville Cemetery.
